We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jordan Standifer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with JayeEss below.
JayeEss, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is my current musical project. Not sure if i’m leaving it as an EP or finishing it as an LP, but the music feels SO good! In the past, I’ve been cautious and super safe when it came to displaying my feelings and singing about my queer love experiences. This project is built around the black queer experience, something that we don’t hear in R&B music EVER! So this project definitely means the world to me.
JayeEss, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is JayeEss, and I am an artist/songwriter as well as a Public Relations/Marketing professional. Ive been doing music as a side gig for about 3 years, and proud to have my latest album “JEU: 2nd semester debut at #6 on the R&B charts independently. I’m a creative who also does freelance consulting under my business JSMediaGroup,LLC. My business is built on the idea of creating with my clients, and imagining together! My business consists of anything from creative direction to social media presence.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing your hard work pay off! As an artist, it means the world to me when I accomplish the smallest things. In this business, its very easy to get discouraged and give up. But its the hustle and drive that you have to help fuel your success. I’m nowhere near where I want to be professionally, but I’m working super hard to reach all of my goals and to remain myself through my artistry.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I’m from a small community in Mississippi where people rarely leave. I was determined as a queer black male to do bigger and greater things. As a child, I always knew that I would persue music in some shape, form, or fashion. My journey has just began, and I never let my small town background hold me back or allow me to box my ideas in.
