Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jordan Sakala. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jordan , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
One of the biggest trends in the moving industry is the increasing demand for affordable and flexible delivery options, particularly for picking up and delivering furniture and heavy items purchased locally. More people are cutting home improvement costs by shopping on digital marketplaces such as Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, an OfferUp, but face the challenge of getting these items delivered to their homes conveniently and cost effectively.
“We recently interviewed Eric, a Laborhutt user based in Chicago who was relocating his furniture to a small storage unit. When asked why he chose Laborhutt over U-Haul or a local moving company, Eric responded, ‘I called some moving companies and compared quotes. It would have cost me $350 to get my items moved. Then, I considered renting a box truck from U-Haul as the next cheapest option, which would have been around $180 after fees and refueling. After some research, I found someone with a box truck on Laborhutt who charged me $96. Affordability was the most important factor for me.'”
In today’s economy, people are increasingly willing to go the extra mile to find value, often turning to peer-to-peer solutions to share resources.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jordan Sakala, and I’m the founder at Laborhutt.com. Our website connects furniture and appliance shoppers with people in the community who have trucks for affordable and convenient delivery. What sets Laborhutt apart is our focus on affordability, convenience, and community. Most of the people that sign-up to move items, don’t necessarily help for money, but more to get out of the house and help someone in the community, so you’ll find that it’s a lot cheaper and the community is willing to work with your budget.
I started Laborhutt about two years ago, in 2022, shorly after two of my startup attempts crashed and burned. The whole Laborhutt idea had been brewing in my head since my college days at the University of Colorado. I was a broke student looking for cheap furniture at Goodwill, and paying professional movers wasn’t even a thought, so I asked a neighbor to help me pick up the item. That moment planted the seed for laborhutt – a platform where neighbors can lend a hand with moving and hauling.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Verdi and I crossed paths in a startup Discord group based in Dallas. He was knee-deep in his own startup venture, and we hit it off right away. We’d hop on calls regularly to talk about the challenges we were facing. After getting to know each other over several months, we made the bold decision to merge our efforts and work together as co-founders. And the rest, as they say, is history.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I would say our most effective strategy is thoroughly understanding search engine marketing. It’s by the far the most sustainable acquisition channel.
