We were lucky to catch up with Jordan Roman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jordan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
I did not have to look far for a role model or a hero. My father (Art Roman) and older brother (Drew Roman) were who I looked up to. My father and brother led by example and have supported me throughout my entire life. They both instilled principles in me such as lead don’t follow, be there for others, and always keep developing.
Another person I have great respect for is Lebron James. Lebron has laid out the blueprint for athletes who love their community and is committed to making a difference. He is teaching athletes all over the nation how to be more than just an athlete which is our motto here at 50 Sports Company.
These 3 men have influenced and inspired me in many ways.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am more than just an athlete; I am Jordan Roman, a former athlete turned businessman. I was born and raised in Lithonia, GA and I am an graduate of Lithonia High School. I am a former College football player for Alabama A&M University. After an extensive 15+ year football career, I officially hung up my football cleats in 2015 and started my pivot.
During this tough transition God lead me down an unknowing path to becoming an assistance manager at Footlocker, a PE teacher, and a elementary school teacher. At that time in my career, I had no idea what God was preparing me for. I faced doubt, confusion and ultimately feeling like I’ve underperformed at this point in my life. Thankfully, my strong relationship with God allowed me to weather the storm and eventually find my purpose in life and it had nothing to do with a football. I’ve learned through failures and success. During that time I was able to gain an enormous amount of knowledge that I would later need to become the person God planned for me to be, all along.
Fast forward to today, I am Jordan Roman, and I am the Owner/CEO of 50 Sports Company. Life is full of ups and downs; we must understand that we will face obstacles in life. Things may not go as planned and that is okay. Life is purpose based, the ultimate accomplishment in life is discovering your purpose on this earth. Once you find your purpose it’s like a cheat code to success, and there is no greater feeling. Find your purpose and you will find success!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth is the best source of marketing for me at this point in my career. Providing and creating a great customer experience is the goal. Being able to train your team to also hold up these standards that you created your business around is important. A great experience to me is showing the customer that they are the priority.
We pride ourselves on listening and delivering what clients are seeking, we create an inviting environment, and show gratitude. The goal is to construct a community where clients and staff can help create opportunities, develop businesses , and educate our youth clients within our community. When you come into our facilities you instantly feel that energy of community, comfort, and cleanliness.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Reputation means everything to me, always being a professional, and always treating others the same, and ultimately being consistent. There will be times where you fail at that but knowing that you are human and will make mistakes is key. Once you make those mistakes people will determine your character/reputation by your follow up. Holding yourself accountable, being an effective communicator and keeping your composure is what ultimately helps me make the right choices when faced with a problem.
No matter the job, task, or duties required to complete, perform them all at your highest level. Every job I’ve ever worked, I’m able to go back and get that same job. (Maybe except for one remember I’m not perfect). I take pride in how people remember me and strive to honor my family brand. When people see 50 Sports Company they see a reputation of community, commitment, and consistency. We will continue to uphold the reputation that we as a company have built and will continue to lead others down the same path.
