We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jordan Oliver a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Consistency whether running a business or learning a new skill that’s one of the most important parts. We can be a great artist, but if we’re not consistent, we can’t perfect are craft If we want to run a social media consistency is key for brand awareness and for growing our audience. being consistent with what we post and how often we post can be the difference between a couple views and a couple million even recently I posted a video of me revealing my art every day for 30 days promoting the prints that I sell on my store and in the comments as it grew more people got excited to see how close I got to reaching that goal or how much longer it would take. if we want followers, we need to build a foundation for them to have something to look forward to seeing. it’s the same with any hobby or thing that we are passionate about.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
When I first started making art, I would stress about making the best art or trying to impress people with what I wanted to be true masterpieces, but as time went on, I realized I just wanted to make art that I was happy with, and knew there would be people out there, who would enjoy it as well as long as I kept making it, it gave more people a chance to see it What I felt was very different was I do a lot of painting outdoors for events and other things, but do watercolor as opposed to acrylic or spray paint , so it really creates quite a unique affect, watching it be brought to life in different weather conditions or in time constraints . I also love to paint Pet photos which really helped me explode across social media like Tiktok getting me close to 16 million views last year alone challenging my audience to share videos of their pets that looked like the paintings I had made, and it was pretty incredible seeing all passionate different animals that looked just like my art from literally all around the world. during the time that I am not painting, pets, or wedding photos, I like to design products for other artists or companies, as well as design, logos, and packaging for businesses all across the country really trying not to stick to too much of one thing and diversify myself so that I don’t get burnt out with something I’m passionate about.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Market on everything weather it’s an online store, social media or a local business be the loudest voice for your company I’ll post something on Facebook that might do terrible but will do great on Instagram or a video that may not have done well on TikTok might do great on reels or YouTube we have to constantly promote ourselves and be consistent. If you stop doing something for a while, the people that were following will move on, and we need to keep their attention while we continue to grow. Also to use your dashboards/help from the social media and check what hashtags or videos are trending right now and see if you can use that in a way that relates to your business or brand.

Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
That was actually one of the things that got me started with making art professionally was making prints then enamel hat pins which then grew into t shirts, and now my company makes every type of product you can imagine from backpacks, hats, pants and jerseys patches, or even glassware and smoking accessories I really try to diversify myself to be able to make not only what I want with my art but to help make the client have a professional product for their logo or design as well.
