We were lucky to catch up with Jordan Ochoa recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jordan, appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I founded RISN with the dream of creating a legacy for my family. My daughter faces unique learning, mental, and physical challenges, and knowing she could one day have the opportunity to run RISN fills me with joy. I started RISN when I had the flexibility to take her to therapies, spend more time with her, and explore new ways to support her growth.
One day, while driving back from the store with her, I began contemplating her future. With my background in marketing and media, I realized there was no single business that met all my needs to ensure brand consistency and ease. Suddenly, I heard a clear voice say, “RISN.” It felt like divine inspiration, and I knew it was God guiding me.
That’s when I began my journey to help others rise through my new venture, RISN.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started RISN to consolidate my extensive experience as a small business owner, marketing director, entrepreneur, and producer. I realized that most small businesses struggle because they have to piece together services from multiple sources. I had to find a graphic designer who understood my vision, a media team that shared my creativity, a content writer to articulate my ideas, and a printing service for my brochures—all while ensuring brand consistency. Finding a website developer within budget was another challenge, often costing more than $10,000.
This fragmented approach consumed time and energy, often leading to inconsistencies in branding. I wondered, what if all these services could be found in one team? That’s the gap RISN fills. We provide several packages tailored to your business type. Now, small businesses can access all these essential services in one place, ensuring efficiency, cohesion, and brand consistency.

Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
One of our wildest media production shoots occurred earlier this year for a client specializing in tactical training and explosives, mostly comprised of former SWAT members. We traveled to a secret location in New Mexico, truly in the middle of nowhere, and were fortunate to find decent accommodations for the entire crew.
I had prepped and warned my team about dealing with live explosives for the next 12 hours, but nothing could prepare us for the physical reality. Our first explosion involved a door, and we had to put on protective gear. As our cameraman moved in to capture the shot, we witnessed the explosion through a second camera. The pressure and power were indescribable. Positioned on the southeast side of the blast, we all felt something whiz past our heads. Once the smoke dissipated, we discovered it was the doorknob, blown off and missing us by mere inches.
The rest of the shoot, while still dangerous and thrilling, involved lighter explosions. As we left New Mexico, a sudden hailstorm turned the roads slippery, forcing us to drive at 40 miles per hour for hours until we escaped the storm. The experience was beyond exhilarating, fun, and crazy, and honestly, we would all do it again.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Something I had to unlearn was a simple yet profound concept that many entrepreneurs struggle to accept. In my previous business, I often worked over 100 hours a week for years, sacrificing time with my family and friends, and neglecting personal moments meant just for me. When I started RISN, I promised myself I wouldn’t fall into that trap again.
There’s a saying that entrepreneurs are married to their business, working 24/7, and while that can be true if you let it, I decided to establish boundaries instead. I learned that working constantly doesn’t equate to constant success. Your energy, family time, and personal time are crucial. The more you invest in maintaining your sanity, the better equipped you are to provide thoughtful feedback, make strategic decisions, and truly succeed in your business.
