We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jordan Martinique. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jordan below.
Hi Jordan, thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
If I could go back in time I would start my music career much sooner; probably in middle or high school. I have loved to sing and write since I was a little girl, but my life circumstances growing up struggling financially made my dreams feel unrealistic so I never took them seriously. Once I got to college at UAB; I met a friend who was pursuing a music career. She explained to me how she records music with a local producer and did music videos with her friends. At the point I realized my dreams weren’t too big and they were indeed very feasible. That next year I decided to leave school and pursue music full time. I feel like if I had started on the path of a music career sooner; I would have learned way more and experienced way more up until this point. I’m grateful to have met someone who was around my age, same skin (black), and relatable to me because it gave me that push I needed to start and a vision for how to even start. That’s why representation is so important because it gives people the motivation and courage to follow their dreams. I want to be that same representation and motif for others one day.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I’m Jordan Martinique; singer, rapper, and songwriter. I started pursuing a music career in 2019 when I wrote and recorded my first song. Prior to this I had only written poetry and journals. Music and writing has always been an outlet for me though so it was easy for me to put my thoughts into Melodies on beats. After I started writing and recording music I wanted to see how it resonated with others so I started doing live performances. People loved my music and my voice. It was really a surreal feeling how well people vibed with my music. Seeing how much people liked my music made me go even harder and want to keep going. A fan favorite of mine is called “MOOD”. It’s an upbeat R&b song available on all streaming platforms. I create music that people can feel and relate to, dance to, cry and sing their hearts out to, or blast on full volume hanging out the window with their ratchet friends. I feel as an artist I’m relatable to all different types of people and that’s the best part about me and my music. I’m proud of my strength to keep going. Pursing this career has not been easy at all. I have taken a lot of losses, gotten discouraged, been rejected, but through it all I will never stop because I simply love to create music. It’s like therapy for my soul. I would love for my fans to go stream my singles “Mood” and “Think About You. These are both upbeat songs that will make you dance and sing along the first time you hear them.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
What drives me in pursing and furthering my music career is the sheer feeling of joy that creating brings me. Waldo want to reach a point where I’m able to provide for myself and the people I love solely from doing what I love which is making music. I also hope to inspire people and die my music to serve as a relatable outlet for others how music was for me growing up and still is now.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I am still working on and learning how to build a loyal fan base, but i e learned that just engaging with people and being your authentic self is always the best way to win hearts.
