Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jordan Miller. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jordan, thanks for joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I am happy with wood working! I make wood pens and I feel it’s a release for me. I can’t have a regular job I am a 100% disabled combat veteran because of my injuries I am unable to have a regular job. I was wood turning as a hobby now I sell my pens as well as 3d printed gift boxes for the pens as well!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jordan I am a combat veteran with a combat tour to Iraq as well as Arizona army national guard where I did state missions as well. I got into wood working as a release for my PTSD and anxiety. I found that this was a great way to have a creative side and I can make anything I want. With pen making you can make them any shape or size as well as making bowls as well when the project is finished it is a sense of accomplishment for me and everyone says what a great job I have done. What sets me apart from others is when you wood turn and make stuff nothing is the same problem arise but you have to be able to think out side the box to make it work.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
There is a particular goal that drives .y creative journey. I want to be able to show other veterans that you have to be artsy to be able to combat your PTSD or stress. I want to show other people who have PTSD and anxiety that there is something for them they can do and maybe make some money and supplement income while having fun and heal from traumatic events.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
In my view what society can do to best to support artists is to encourage them to keep doing what they are doing and to buy something from them and tell people because everyone started as a small business and in the community and they rose up to be big because of local people who loved the product and I am hoping that I can do the same with teaching other the craft and to show them that they can regain their life again and be creative.
