We recently connected with Jordan Mcnutt and have shared our conversation below.
Jordan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
We’ve all heard it: “One day, I’m going to do _ _ _ _,” and yet, years later, nothing’s changed. Whether it’s a friend with endless plans or that little voice inside whispering, “What if you actually went for it?” – dreams are beautiful, but let’s be real: it’s the action behind them that transforms sparks into roaring flames. That’s where JMCeramics Studio LLC began—a tiny spark I nurtured into a roaring flame.
Starting wasn’t easy, babe. It was terrifying, but taking action is what transforms dreams into something real. First, I had to nail the vibe—everything from the logo and brand voice to packaging and colors. Choosing a name wasn’t a quick decision (Google practically became my bestie during this process), but once I landed on JMCeramics,Studio LLC the vision clicked into place. I set out to build a brand that felt authentically me: modern elegance with a splash of retro groove. Every detail—fonts, colors, packaging—was carefully crafted because it wasn’t just about the pottery; it was about creating an experience that makes holding a JMC piece unforgettable.
Then came the tools of the trade. The tech part of launching a business? No joke. With zero social media presence, I knew Instagram would be crucial for building our community. Starting at zero followers is HARD. You’re shouting into the void, hoping someone, anyone will notice. But I started small: introducing myself as a potter, sharing my messy (and often hilarious) journey, and documenting the creation of my first inventory. Each post and reel was a little brick in the foundation of JMCeramics Studio LLC.
At the same time, I had to figure out how to sell. Etsy? Shopify? Markets? The options were endless, and I had to decide where my pieces would live and how customers would find them. And let me tell you – launching a pottery business with no inventory? Not an option. I threw, glazed, and fired like my life depended on it (spoiler: it kind of did). Through trial and error, I built a collection of stunning, functional pieces that I was proud to debut.
Launch day wasn’t just about hitting “publish” and crossing my fingers. Oh no, babe – it was a full-on hype fest. Think social media countdowns, sneak peeks, and even gifting free pieces to early supporters for their feedback. The energy was electric, and JMCeramics Studio LLC made its entrance with flair.
Fast forward to today: JMCeramics Studio LLC has grown and flourished. Our logo has had a glow-up, our brand voice is bolder, and our marketing game is stronger than ever. We’ve expanded into new sales channels, conquered artisan markets, and built a beautiful community. But it all traces back to that one brave, scary step—choosing to show up and take action. Building this dream wasn’t about knowing everything from the start; it was about learning along the way and turning a little clay and a whole lot of courage into something truly magical. ✨

Jordan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I first discovered pottery during a girls’ day out with my mom in 2022. I’ll be honest – I was far from a natural. Pottery didn’t come easy, but there was something so grounding about getting my hands dirty in the mud, working with clay from the earth, and shaping it into something beautiful. It quickly became my therapeutic outlet, and soon after, my full-on passion. By 2023, a pottery wheel sat in my home, and with practice and intention, I launched JMCeramics Studio LLC.
Today, JMCeramics Studio LLC is Florida’s premier home pottery studio, where I specialize in creating one-of-a-kind, hand-thrown ceramics that combine mid-century modern, retro, eclectic, and 70s-inspired styles. My designs blend clean lines with groovy, nostalgic vibes to create pieces that are timeless yet fresh. One fan favorite? Our “Pretty Bums.” It’s a playful, cheeky detail – hidden designs on the bottom of each piece – that brings unexpected personality to functional art.
What sets JMCeramics apart is the heart behind each piece. Every item, whether a vase or a coffee mug, is designed with intention – combining craftsmanship and visual storytelling. My ceramics resonate with people around the world, infusing individuality and joy into their homes. Each piece isn’t just pottery—it feels like a reflection of the customer who chooses it, and that’s where the true beauty lies.

Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
One of my favorite stories highlights how custom orders became a cornerstone of JMCeramics Studio LLC. Shortly after launching, we attended our first artisan market – a big step into the community. The energy was electric, and I was both excited and nervous.
During the day, a customer wandered into my booth. As we talked, she shared her story and asked about a piece I didn’t have in stock. That moment sparked an idea: “How about I make it for you?” I didn’t know it then, but that single sentence changed everything.
Over the next month, I took her along for the journey. She got exclusive sneak peeks, contributed to design choices, and witnessed her idea come to life. Her excitement and joy radiated through every message she sent, making the experience truly unforgettable.
That moment taught me that custom orders are more than just a sale—they’re a way to turn someone’s story, dream, or memory into a tangible piece of art. From personalized mugs to Spider-Man pizza plates (yes, really), custom work has become the heart of JMCeramics Studio LLC. When you place a custom order with us, it’s not just about the finished piece – it’s about the journey we take together to create something uniquely you.

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
When I first launched JMCeramics Studio LLC online, I thought, I’ve got this. I’ll sell through my own website, keep it simple, and the sales will roll in. Babe, let me tell you—that was a hard no. I quickly realized that building a small ceramics business from scratch isn’t just about creating the products; it’s about building a whole ecosystem. A website from scratch, customer outreach, and driving traffic? Overwhelming. That’s when I turned to Etsy, and it was a game changer.
In just one year, JMCeramics Studio LLC grew from zero to over 300 sales. Etsy connected me with a global community of like-minded individuals seeking unique, handmade pieces. It gave me the momentum, feedback, and tools to refine my approach. I gained valuable insights into what resonated with customers, tracked sales trends, and built meaningful connections with those who truly appreciated my work. I could see which products were flying off the shelves and which ones needed a little more attention. I tracked where my pieces were headed—from small towns to big cities—and watched our community grow. As 5-star reviews began rolling in, the dream of JMCeramics Studio LLC burned even brighter.
Of course, Etsy isn’t perfect. You’re not the only one out there – it’s a crowded marketplace, and the competition is fierce. Selling on Etsy is not as simple as publishing a listing and boom, sales start rolling in. No, babe. There’s a whole world of searchable tags, categories, SEO, and strategy to master. I’m talking daily research into what tags are working, tweaking product descriptions, updating titles, and making your shop more discoverable. And honestly? I’m still learning. Every day is a new lesson in what works and what doesn’t. If anyone out there has a cheat sheet on how to win at Etsy, please send it my way! But here’s the truth: Etsy has been vital in helping JMCeramics Studio LLC grow beyond what I could have done alone. It’s opened doors I didn’t even know were there, and for that, I’ll always be grateful—growing pains and all.
