We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jordan Lyn a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jordan , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I’m self taught mostly. When I was younger I learned how to sew my own clothing and during college, I was exposed to fiber arts. From that point I experimented more and found embroidery. I looked up videos online and read a lot of book to find what works for me!

Jordan , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a fiber artist and illustrator from Denver. I started during college at Rocky Mountain college of art and design back in 2015.
I make a lot of embroidery pieces that have are based on ideas of female experiences. I love to mix nature into a lot of my pieces, flowers and vines that are overwhelming at times to create something new.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I honestly can say reading a lot of books or finding references have helped me a lot. One place I love to look at is book sections in museums. There is always so many great references to look at. I get addicted to finding new ways to create and learning from what I read. I also love visiting craft stores and checking out all the different textures and fabrics that they have to offer.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I love to post anything I make even if it isn’t embroidery. Just showing what I paint or create besides what I feel like I am suppose to. Trying to stay true to myself and not get so worried about if people will like it or not, knowing that I do is enough.
