We were lucky to catch up with Jordan Lopez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jordan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on was the release of my first single with my band, ‘My Favorite Foods’. It was more than just a song — it represented years of growth as a musician, a producer, and a leader.
At the time, I was balancing school, work, and creative deadlines, but I felt a deep urgency to get our music out into the world. I took on the challenge of not only writing and recording the track but also mixing and mastering it myself — all from my home studio using a setup I’d slowly built over time. Our band has a big sound, with multiple guitarists and two drummers, so managing the arrangement and sonic space in the mix was no small task. But I was determined to get it right.
What made this project truly meaningful was how it brought my team together. I directed the session workflow, helped others feel confident in their parts, and guided the vision from start to finish. Seeing the song finally release, getting that first stream, and hearing people respond to it made every late night worth it. That release wasn’t just a milestone — it was proof that we could turn our creative ideas into something real. It reminded me why I want to do this professionally: to bring great music to life, build connections through sound, and help others do the same.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Jordan Lopez, a multi-instrumentalist, music producer, and mixing engineer with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Production. I’m the founder and lead creative force behind my band, ‘My Favorite Foods’ — a genre-bending group that combines rock, funk, electronic, pop, and more into something uniquely flavorful. Think of us like a sonic restaurant: our songs are different dishes, each offering a new taste, but together they reflect who we are.
Music has been my passion since I was a kid growing up in Palm Bay, Florida. I got into music production initially out of necessity: I wanted to bring my ideas to life but didn’t have access to expensive studios, so I learned how to do it all myself. Over the years, that turned into a strength. Now, I write, record, mix, master, and perform — not just for my own projects, but for others too. I’ve recorded everything from vocals and guitars to keys, synths, bass, and percussion, and I’m proficient in Pro Tools, Logic, and FL Studio.
The music I make — whether solo or with my band — is all about honesty and creativity without borders. I want listeners to feel something unexpected, to hear a blend of genres they didn’t know could exist together, and still connect to something real. As a producer and engineer, I help others shape their sound and express themselves fully, whether they come in with a rough demo or just an idea. I pride myself on being easy to work with, detail-oriented, and deeply invested in making every project the best it can be.
What sets me apart is that I don’t believe in boxes. I don’t make music just to fit a market — I make it to reflect real feelings, stories, and flavors. I’m proud of how far I’ve come with the resources I’ve had, from building a functional home studio to releasing a fully self-mixed single with my band. That debut was a milestone: not just technically, but emotionally. It captured the essence of what we’re about — raw energy, genre fusion, and real connection.
For fans and future collaborators, I want you to know that I take this seriously. Whether I’m writing a song, tracking a live band, or mixing someone else’s project, I’m all in. I believe music can still surprise people — and that artists today don’t have to choose just one lane. With ‘My Favorite Foods’ and my solo work, I’m here to prove that.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One story that really illustrates my resilience happened during the early stages of producing my band’s first single. We had just formed our band My Favorite Foods, and while we were full of creative energy, we had no industry support, no professional studio access, and basically no money. I took on the challenge of recording, mixing, and mastering our first track by myself—juggling this with a full college course load in my music production program.
We ran into constant obstacles: technical issues, scheduling conflicts between band members, and the pressure of wanting everything to sound perfect without the resources to get there easily. I spent countless late nights in my home studio, troubleshooting gear problems, refining mixes, and re-recording vocals until they matched the vision I had in my head. After all, it was my first professional track, I didn’t know what I was doing. I didn’t know if it was right, or if it even sounded good. At one point, I nearly scrapped the entire mix out of frustration. But I reminded myself why I started—because I believe in our music and in the power of persistence.
Eventually, we released the song, and the response was incredibly validating. It proved that with enough determination and belief in your craft, you can push through any limitation. That experience taught me that resilience isn’t just about bouncing back—it’s about refusing to stop, even when things get hard.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the connection—both with the people I collaborate with and with the listeners who find meaning in what I create. There’s something incredibly powerful about taking a personal emotion, story, or idea and transforming it into music that resonates with someone else, sometimes in ways I never expected.
Whether it’s seeing a bandmate light up when a part finally clicks in the studio or hearing that a listener felt understood or moved by a lyric I wrote, those moments remind me why I do this. Music has the power to bridge gaps between people, to heal, to inspire, and to energize. Being a part of that process—bringing sound into the world that wasn’t there before—is something I’ll never take for granted.
