We were lucky to catch up with Jordan Grahm recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jordan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you recount a time when the advice you provided to a client was really spot on? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
The absolute best advice I have given a client is to not allow “perfect” to be the enemy of good enough. Many of us have a tendency to think that if we cannot do something perfectly (such as our food intake and/or exercise routine), we should just give up and not do it at all.
The reality is that if we just do what we can do, and give it an effort to push in the right direction it will always be better than not trying.
None of us are perfect, and the best laid out plans can change at a moment’s notice.
We owe it to ourselves to at least try to move in the direction we want to go, whether that looks like not finishing the entire plate of food, or going for a 10 minute walk, those seemingly small things can add up to get us excellent results.

Jordan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jordan Grahm, I am an internationally known weight loss specialist and coach located in Los Angeles, California. I coach people to transform their lives through health, nutrition, and fitness. I help people develop and strengthen habits that will improve their health, their mindset and improve their lives. Helping clients from all backgrounds and at all levels has brought me a lot of hands-on experience. I specialize in fat loss and total body transformations. After undergoing my own transformation, losing over 200 pounds, I understand not only the physical aspects of changing one’s body and life but the mental and emotional ones as well. I am offering highly customized data-driven programs to get you to your goals.
I guide people by meeting them where they are and then helping to build new, healthy habits that will carry on for life. Improved quality of life due to feeling better and being healthier is a huge compounding effect. Folks will spend less on going out for food/drinks and ideally spend less on healthcare due to taking better care of themselves.
I have helped clients regain their health and completely turn their lives around. Several clients have lost triple-digit amounts of weight which opened up so many new possibilities to them. Many clients have been able to have major transformations not just in their health/fitness but in their lives such as having confidence that leads to getting married, starting families, etc
This is by far the coolest job in the world!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I first got certified as a personal trainer, I went out and applied for jobs at every single gym I could find in the Los Angeles area. While I had the knowledge and skills to do the job, there were several places where they flat out told me that I did not have “the look” for the position including one where I was told “how can you be a trainer if you do not have six-pack abs?”
The fact that I had lost over 200 pounds through diet and exercise on my own did not seem to be enough for some of the people I had interviewed with who were simply looking at the fact that my body looked different than most trainers.
I was turned away from most of the corporate big-box type gyms and was disheartened to say the least.
Finally, a small boutique studio gave me a chance to interview and do some practicals with training people, they hired me right away and I was able to learn and grow a great deal while working there.
Eventually I branched out on my own and have been able to continue training folks both in person and remotely since 2011.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I have been able to build my reputation in my market by being able to connect with people, meet them where they are at, and get them great results. Having been through many of the challenges that people face, I understand what it is like and I have empathy as well as deeply caring about the results of my clients.
Most of my current clients are ones who have heard about me through word of mouth which is an endorsement I am quite proud of.
