We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jordan Elizabeth. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jordan below.
Hi Jordan, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I started my career in fashion in 2013 working at a mens custom clothier! I hustled to build my book of business and I worked hard to make sure all of my clients had a wide variety of custom suits, shirts, and sport coats to fill their wardrobe. After working with several people for a few years, they had their closets stocked and no longer needed to invest in adding more professional wear. I couldn’t lose the clients I had worked so hard to gain, so I decided I would offer shopping for their casual wear on the side. They enjoyed the convenience of it and I enjoyed getting to be more creative and become familiar with brands, sizing, and different stores! Then it turned into “would you shop for my wife? “Can you help a friend of mine?” And it continued to grow and grow. Now I work as a full time personal stylist and I absolutely love it. My approach in comparison to many personal stylists out there is to stretch my customers dollar as far as possible. Find them good brands at great prices and really make it worth their investment. I think most people hear “personal shopper” and think the service will cost a fortune, but I have strived to help people with all different budgets because after all, helping people is my favorite thing about what I do!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have worked since I was 15 because it was something I WANTED to do. With each job, customer service was a huge part of my training and i’m so grateful for that. I always hear how personable I am and people really open up to me and trust me with what I do! Building a relationship with my clients is a highlight of what I do and no matter how busy I am, I want them to feel like they come first and that they are a priority!
In my early 20s I danced and cheered professionally. There are so many things i’ve taken from those years that i’m able to apply today. We were required to write handwritten thank you notes to each sponsor, to anyone who hired us for appearances, or to anyone who assisted with events we were a part of. I try and write handwritten notes to all of my clients because to me it’s more meaningful than a quick text or email. It’s genuine and it takes time and effort!
In addition to personal shopping, I help clients with building a look book which consists of outfit ideas they can reference. For some people getting dressed is mindless and it’s easy, and for SO many people it is a real challenge. I also provide closet consultations where I go through my clients closets and pull out items that are worn or dated and I take inventory of what we can add to make getting ready an easier task! In this world where everything is fast paced and convenience is key, I pride myself and my services on making peoples lives easier!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Get plugged in with different Facebook groups that might have an interest in what you’re selling or the services you’re providing! I am a mom and I live in a suburb, so I have joined several “mom groups” to connect with women who are both local and have similar lifestyles. Most women love looking good, but either hate shopping or don’t have time to shop, so becoming a member of those platforms helps to get me in front of people who would benefit from my services. Facebook groups have been the way to go for me personally!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My approach isn’t to dress everyone in what’s “hot” or “trendy” at the moment. In fact there are a lot of trends that I don’t particularly like. My goal is to improve someones style by getting them a little bit out of their comfort zone, by shopping quality garments that will last, and helping them to dress for their body type. I am honest with my clients, I am persistent enough but not pushy, and I truly care for the people I work with. I work off of mostly referrals and I think people recommend me because my services really do make a difference and I can see peoples confidence shift after just one fitting!
