We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jordan Denton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jordan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I’ve always been sentimental with photos and enjoyed art. I originally bought my first camera to start documenting my life more; however, I quickly realized I wanted to learn photography and document other people’s lives. I spent countless hours watching tutorials about my camera, editing, and how to capture beautiful photos. Once I started to perfect my craft, I couldn’t stop, and it’s been seven years since I started photography.
Jordan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
After diving into my craft, I focused on capturing sentimental moments for clients and creating photos that would be memories forever. I got my creativity from my Great-Grandmother, who was a painter. When I was a little girl, my favorite place in her house was her basement. She had a studio set-up where she did her paintings and other art projects. So I guess you could say it runs in the family. Some of my favorite and most relaxed moments are when I’m editing and taking photographs. I enjoy seeing my pictures come to life and print off at least one photo from every session I shoot so that I can look back at my work.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I had the confidence to reach out to other photographers sooner to get advice and learn new skills. When I was a beginner, I was intimidated to reach out to other photographers for advice and help, but now I wish I had reached out much sooner.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word-of-mouth. Social media is a big help, but I’m positive word-of-mouth is still the best way to get new clients.
