We recently connected with Jordan Curtis and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan , thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
It takes defeat to be successful. You can’t really experience success until you fail. Success is like an apartment. Rent is due every month. That means the work doesn’t stop. Failure is necessary to be successful. Failing is a constant reminder of where I don’t want to be ever again. Whenever I wake up and that bed got a seatbelt in it. I just think about when my entire paycheck was going to Earnin, behind on Klarna and Affirm payments, sleeping pillow to post, and driving the same truck I’ve been driving since junior year in high school, and dealing with an autoimmune disease. That’s all the push I need. I walk with a limp from years of battle with an autoimmune disease and that limp is a constant reminder to me that I may have been defeated, but I made it to the other side. Success.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into photography/videography by watching vlogs. I caught covid about 2 years ago, and I was quarantined in a hotel. My friend told me about this guy named Ron Doug. I started binge watching his vlogs and they were like movies but it felt like I was right there with him. I then discovered Shevon Salmon. He is who I aspire to be. He’s more of a tech guy. I literally spend at least $100 after I watch one of his vlogs. I then got into Lough. Lough is kind of like Shevon, but he is more social media oriented. The vibes of his vlogs are amazing. I base my content and editing off of his style. So, Ron is my OG.. Shevon is my inspiration and Lough is my reference.
I provide all kinds of services for my clients. Anything dealing with a camera, I can do and have done. Weddings, real estate, birthday parties, podcasts, music videos you name it. Content creation is my heart. Follow me @nvmbrjc if you want to see personal content and @novembermedia if you want to see business content.
My clients do not see problems because I fix them. I pride myself on my client not having to do much when they’re with me. I got it. You just do your thing. JC gone do his part! I am also going to make the experience as easy and comfortable as possible for you. I almost like your assistant. The more calm, collected and comfortable you are, the better these pictures and/or video is going to come out !
The main thing I want my potential clients and followers to know is that I got you! I am not the average photographer/videographer. I care about the craft. Just take a look at my personal and business content. My clients also understand that quality is my main thing. I didn’t pay all this money and learn all this to look like I shot you on a security camera!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Make yourself available and a closed mouth don’t get fed ! My dad use to always tell me when I played ball in high school, “Make yourself available.” Oh you need a photographer and its last minute? Ok. I got you! Any event Im at, I connect with at least three people. I hand my card out to everyone with a suit on and/or with glasses on. Try it and I guarantee it works. They may not need your services, but I can guarantee they will share it with someone who does. You only have one chance to make a first impression. I make myself recallable. My logo is purple. After someone leaves an event, that purple logo will be in the back of their head. I’ve never a met a stranger. I know how to read a person and read a room. Men love football and women love purses. “Man, what about them Cowboys”. “Whatever you do, do not walk pass my mama with that purse cause she gone be asking me to get her one.” The conversation goes from there. I had them my business card and it goes like this, “I don’t need anything done soon but I have a friend that needs XYZ.” About a day or two later, “Hey my friend told me you do XYZ. I need you for XYZ. Can you send me a quote?”

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth and Facebook. I keep all relationships with anyone I know good. Whether they are a client or not, You never know who that person that may know or what that person has going on. They’ll be quick to refer you just based of your character. I’ve gotten clients because of how respectful and mannerable I am. People do want to see you succeed, the right people! Get around those right people! I got a gig at a big time church based off my connection with a friend. They had a pool of photographers to choose from, but chose me because someone spoke well of me.
Facebook is a gold mine. The crowd is over there is a little bit more older and professional (They got money). Mothers, Grandmothers, Aunties, Business Owners etc. If your work is good, it won’t be much negotiation , if at all. “Ok. How/Where do I book?”
