We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jordan Cox. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jordan below.
Alright, Jordan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
When I was in school learning about skin care, we were encouraged to start an instagram with an attention grabbing name to start documenting our work and building by our portfolios. When I started school my goal was to help others feel good and confident about themselves. Coming up with a one of a kind name that incorporates making other feel good was very important to me. The name “Skintacy” comes from two words skin and ecstasy. Ecstasy meaning an overwhelming feeling of great happiness or joyful excitement. I just spelled it a little differently and made it my own. My goal for each client that comes into my space is for them to leave feeling happier, more relaxed, and just leaving better than when the arrived.
Jordan , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a licensed aesthetician in Gilbert, AZ specializing in relaxing but result driven treatments. I take pride in the products I provide and use for my clients. I have been using the brand Rhonda Allison for almost four years and their formulations are top notch and really focus on healing and treating the skin. Not only do I specialize in facials but I also provide lash lifting services. Lash lifts give your natural lashes a boosted appearance by curling or lifting your lashes to look like you are wearing mascara without any makeup needed. Besides my two top services, I also provide facial waxing and spray tans.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I started my business with zero clients right out of school in November 2019. I was only open for 3 months before I had to close due to the world pandemic. After being able to open up again I worked really hard to make new potential clients feel safe in my space and was able to continue working on growing my business. In December 2020 I found out I was pregnant with my first baby. As other moms know, this brings a whole set of obstacles but was able to work through and continue to bring my clients an excellent service. 12 weeks into my pregnancy I tragically lost my dad to Covid and other health problems he was experiencing. I knew this would impact my life but never could imagine the sadness I would experience with this loss and how challenging it was to continue to fight for my business and grieve at the same time. Once it came time to having my daughter I took 10 weeks off and closed down. I had a hard birth that ended in a c section and lots of other complications I dealt with for weeks after. When I was finally able to get back to clients that was such a relief and made me feel like myself again. Through these big life changes and challenges I am still currently fighting for my business and thriving like I have always hoped. With the raising prices of goods not only for my business but basically everything in the world, I will see new challenges and obstacles to overcome but continue to thrive and love what I do!
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
After 3 years of working multiple jobs I am proud to say that my business is my only job and income today. I have done many different side jobs throughout the last four years that include bartending, selling beef jerky at the farmers market, working at a dental office, making tortillas, and brand ambassador for a variety of companies to help fund my business and continue to pay for my bills at home. It was never easy to juggle between everything but with the support of my partner at home, I am able to focus on my business today and only work one job. Sometimes you just have to do what’s needed to get by and I’m happy to say that it is paying off.
