We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jordan Choh. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jordan below.
Jordan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The movie, “A Promise,” that I am working on right now has been the most meaningful project I’ve worked on. In my life, the most extraordinary thing I’ve ever experienced was falling in love, and nothing tops it. At the same time, the most meaningful goal I ever had was to make it in the entertainment industry, and to make my parents proud at all cost. In this movie, I bring the two themes together, with the main character having to choose between career and love. Using music I’ve written about these two themes, and collaborating with actors and musicians I’ve met along the way, creating this film has been extremely rewarding for me, and I cannot wait to keep creating.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the entertainment industry SAG AFTRA after studying as an actor, working on set for over 2 years and signing with an agent. I’ve always made my own projects on this side when not auditioning, like writing music, directing music videos and producing short films. What sets me a part from others is my ability to produce an entire film with the knowledge of music, directing, acting, editing, to serve me as a capable leader on set. I am most proud of the fact that over all these years I’ve been able to connect with very talented and passionate people to work and collaborate with, and how I was able to grow my skills in various fields.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
An interesting lesson I had to unlearn was to not take myself so seriously. I’ve always had an inclination to go all in with whatever I did and felt deeply with the dreams I’ve made for myself, yet this created a lot of problems mentally that could’ve have been avoided. Being a dreamer, movies like “Rocky” and “Whiplash” really connected with me, and I put myself into a world where I accomplish my goal or die trying. What naturally occurred was that my interest has taken me through drumming, acting, music, writing, and directing and all over the place, rather than one determined thing. Obsessing over one goal and how my life should have gone really stopped me from seeing what I naturally loved doing at the time. I think it’s great to go all in with what you want to do, but if it’s not what you want to do anymore, then you have to listen to yourself and focus on the truth of the moment rather than cling to any fixed outcome.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’ve always had one goal in life when it comes to career, and that was to reach the top of whatever field I did no matter what. Being in the entertainment industry, and trying to make it in such a business, already comes with the impossibility of ever making it to the “top.” The longer I try to make it in this industry, the more I realize that. Regardless, anytime I feel like giving up something else always pushes me forward instead. With such lofty goals I’ve had, such as wanting to be the greatest drummer alive, to wanting to be the greatest actor, to the greatest singer songwriter, I’ve never stopped reaching for the top no matter how many times I’ve tried to quit. It’s just my nature to go all in or to not do it at all and that’s what I intend on doing the rest of my life.
