Jordan , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
July of (2022), I had just came back to work from being on maternity leave for my second son. I was easing my way going back into full time being a nail tech. I LOVED being a nail tech, the connections, the environment, the social aspect and the bond I created with all of my clients. But, I knew I was missing out on something. I needed to be home, raising my babies. So set forth a series of random ideas I’d pitch to my husband in the weeks ahead, Then I saw a Tik- Tok about Permanent Boned Jewelry, and I knew; that was it! I could do this a few nights a week/month and be home with the kids during the day! My husband kind of just nodded his head and shrugged his shoulders because, yah know, this wasn’t the first pipe dream I had pitched to him. But, I didn’t let up. So I started researching and strategizing, calling and talking to welders and jewelers trying to figure out what exactly was going on here, and what I’d need to get started.
I hit dead end after dead end. Everyone I tried to reach out to who was in this industry did not want to share any info. So, I just started buying what I thought was the right equipment, and supplies. Surprise surprise, it wasn’t. After multiple failed attempts I was about to give up and tried one more machine, it was right! But how do I use this thing? I kept digging, asking people over and over for help, finally came across Shari Tammietti (of St. George, Utah.) She welcomed me with open arms, and helped guide me along the way. Little did I know, at the time she was starting a Permanent Jewelry training program that soon would be available to the public for newbies just like I was! It is an amazing course and guides you every step of the way. It comes with everything you need to get started, so there’s no guessing game! Then I hit another road block, I had already started purchasing all of my equipment before I had came across her coarse. Being the sweet soul she is, still helped guide me through finding chain, and charms, and how to navigate my machine. Its been very difficult finding quality product that you trust, and a lot of times it is just trial and error. I have since learned which companies to trust and how long to test my products before putting them on customers.
After I felt like had had things down as far as my welding process, my chains, the liabilities, all of the back office stuff figured out; I knew I wanted to just do Pop-Up’s and Private Parties for the time being, not having that the overhead of a permanent location made it a lot easier going into business. So I researched how to structure an event like that and what I would want to see and experience as a customer, and how I would feel at the event. So that’s what I based it around, the customer experience. I want you and your loved ones to come and have this experience that you remember and cherish forever.
I started talking to Paisley Taylor (create art bar owner) and she thought it was an amazing plan and offered to host my first event! I gathered some of my closest friends, and we set up shop and my vision came to life! From the music, the Mimosas, and the buzz of the street traffic from farmers market. It was exactly what I had visioned. Here we are almost a year later still going strong! I can’t wait to see where 2023 takes us!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a very detail oriented person, coming from doing nails for 10+ years. So going to the preciseness of welding and styling products and chains on someone was like putting the icing on the cake for me. An outfit is never complete without jewelry, so why not have a timeless piece you never have to worry about taking on or off again.
The brand I wanted to create was very specific. From the aesthetic, to the customer experience. I knew I needed to stand out and be different. I of course had a vision when it came to the actual branding of Ball + Chained, and thankfully I had the perfect helper execute that, my Mom, Nikki Zeober. She designed my logo, and helped execute exactly what I had visioned, from the cohesive arch you will see throughout our branding, to the signs, the verbiage and everything. I couldn’t have gotten where I am without her help!
I then reached out to a local entrepreneur Stacy Pfaeler to have my beautiful custom signage made, I had a vision and didn’t know how to create it. And between Nikki and Stacy they made my vision come to life!
I am very passionate about the quality of the pieces I’m providing. I have set out to find quality products that are more affordable, but meets my high standards. I quality test everything for a solid month to make sure it withstands my busy lifestyle with kids that it will hold up for you!
Permanent Bonded Jewelry is the next best thing. You never have to deal with pesky clasps anymore, its sustainable and not just a fast fashion fad. Its classy and elegant and here to stay.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media is a whole different ball game than I thought. I figured id be able to run my business and run social media and everything myself. Boy was I wrong. I was so incredibly overwhelmed by it, I couldn’t keep up and I knew I needed help.
My good friend Jessie offered to take social media off of my plate and run it for me. Jessie heard my vision, what I wanted the viewer to feel, and see when they came to the Ball + Chained Instagram page. Jessie nailed it, and continues to thrive and help grow Ball + Chained into this amazing business that I vision. I am so thankful and I could not do this without her!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
We pride ourselves in quality, and experience. I have some outstanding girls who work with me at the events, and they know the Ball + Chained standard & reputation. I knew going into this that I wanted the customer to feel welcomed, and excited to have this fun experience with us, and the people you love. Our goal is to create that Bond with you that you can wear forever.
