We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jordan Allen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jordan below.
Alright, Jordan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Over the last 4 – 5 years I have been doing some “self discovery” and putting more of myself in the magic & performances I do.
It all started with a sensory friendly show I began work on during the COVID pandemic that debuted in 2021 in Indianapolis.
You can’t hide -and you shouldn’t hide – behind props or set pieces. I see too many magicians, musicians etc hide behind their instrument.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a professional magician. I got started when I was 5-6 years old with a Marvin magic kit. I began performing before crowds when I was 10-11 years old. I started out in churches & birthdays – now I do weddings & corporate / organizations and adult birthdays here & there.
My style has changed over the last 25 some odd years – I did a lot of stand up / stage shows now I do a lot more table to table close up magic

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
It’s not a long term goal- just something I try to keep in mind when performing and I wish more magicians had this in mind – roughly 60% of US adults have never seen magic performed live. What we do is special. Even if it’s 10 seconds or 2 hours we are giving someone a moment they wouldn’t have experienced anywhere else. Magic is special for that reason and it needs to be respected by the performer. You don’t know what the audience is going through – that 10 second performance may be life altering.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
“We support the arts” to me is like “thoughts and prayers “ after a mass shooting. It’s meaningless. It’s an attempt by some to absolve themselves of any responsibility. Without the arts we have no evidence of civilization. Cities that have an active arts scene have better economic output. Art is an investment. Even if you can’t put money into it – open up space in some way for it. I’ve performed in all sorts of unconventional spaces – it is 100% do able. There is no reason a community can’t put the arts forward.
