We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jordan Alexander. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jordan below.
Jordan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I say it all the time, I am truly so happy and blessed to be able to make a living as an artist/creative.
I never saw myself working a “regular” job or a desk job. My “office” is the salon.
I’ve always had such a strong passion for hair and never did I think, I’d be living the life I live now. I remember early on in my career, I would walk into the salon nervous and anxious, not knowing what my day would look like or what projects I would be walking into. It definitely took a while for me to gain the confidence & knowledge that I have now. It definitely didn’t happen overnight, it took time, practice, dedication and lots of mistakes.
I’ve been blessed with amazing clients, some of which have stuck by me for a very long time. They have seen my growth & success throughout the years.
I remember working at my first hair salon and thinking to myself many times “WOW! you’re doing it. You’re a licensed stylist working in a salon. You made it happen.”

Jordan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, my name is Jordan Alexander.
I’ve been in the hair and beauty industry for 10 years now. I was very interested in hair as a kid, I always enjoyed brushing all my girl cousins hair, and styling Barbie dolls whenever I could sneak away and hide.
I work full time behind the chair, but I am also a freelance wedding hairstylist, as well as an onset stylist for magazines, photo shoots, red carpet events, You name it.
The hair industry has allowed me to be creative & versatile, which I feel I thrive in most .
One of my first major clients was Aaron Carter. I met & worked with Aaron at the beginning of the pandemic and we instantly got very close. I was consistently doing house calls and changing up his looks & was featured on his Instagram lives countless times.
I’ve also had the pleasure of styling influencers for magazine covers, billboards, and award shows. My hair work has also been featured on billboards across Times Square in NYC, Las Vegas & Los Angeles.
One of my passions is color. I love the difference a color transformation can make and the confidence it can give to someone. No matter The hours spent on a transformation, once the finished result is achieved that’s when I’m the happiest.
I truly love my career and what I do, and the life it has provided for me. I never take it for granted and am truly grateful for each opportunity, experience & milestone.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me the most rewarding aspect of what I do is seeing my clients happy at the end of their service.
I know I did a good job when I get a hug, a tagged selfie, or a nice tip. The most beautiful part of my job is that I get to connect with people. My clients become close friends of mine. We all come from different walks of life, and it’s so amazing to see my clients blossom in their own lives . I’ve seen some of my clients grow up, I’ve seen my clients get married, I’ve seen my clients have kids. It’s such a beautiful and rewarding feeling knowing I’ve been apart of their lives as well.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I am going to be very honest, I am the most antisocial-social person around.
My career makes me social and extroverted. I have days where I just want to be alone and hide haha.
But then there are many days where I wake up and I have so much energy and positivity to give and I’ll get on social media and post a quick story or photo/video .
I think social media requires time and effort. It’s definitely not easy and it’s very time consuming, but it’s essential for any business.
I have booked many gigs and clients from social media alone, It can be very beneficial. I don’t personally have the biggest following at all, but I think with me, “what you see is what you get.”
I don’t try to be anyone but myself. I post my wild and crazy life and everything in between. Haha. But my advice if you are going to use social media is to just be yourself.
