We recently connected with Jonqueria Smallwood and have shared our conversation below.
Jonqueria, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
My parents did a great job raising me and my siblings. While in High school I was the type that would get in fights and drama all the time. My mom did not play when I was young I would think she’s mean but as I have grown I see now why she said the things she said and did the things she did. I’m glad my mom was a real mother and not a friend because I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today she plays a big part of who I am Today.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I do hair and I also have started selling my own edge control. “TheKijhonaJ Edge Control” my business means everything to me! I wouldn’t say I’m the best but I will say I’m one of them, and it’s not too many. I love my clients and they love me we grow a bond and I know that’s what keep them coming back. I’m a very respectful young lady and business owner.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Everybody ask me this, I really just post my work every single day! I don’t care if it’s the same thing I already posted I’m going to repost it again. Social media takes you a long way and it has definitely got me far.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Yes it did! Doing hair was a side hustle I was working at Walmart and I realized that was not for me I need to be my own boss. Eventually I did just that and became my own boss. I kept practicing and practicing and blew up
