Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jonna Naegele . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jonna , appreciate you joining us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you as a business owner?
Backstory: I worked for a small Acting School before Founding my own schools. I became Accredited in a technique that the school wanted to exclusively promote and have me teach there, when I paid for and sacrificed 3 months of my 2017 year going to LA and putting in the work myself. I refused to be taken advantage of and didn’t take the intimidation and scare tactics lightly, as I was younger and not legally literate at the time. So I was told when I respectfully resigned my position as Coach in the school, that I would not last 2 months after leaving. That students and the industry will forget about me. They didn’t even pay me for my final paycheck of 430.00 I earned.
The very next month I invested what little bit I had to renting a studio spot, I barely could pay for, and had 3 adult students and 2 kid students my 1st class. Each month the class size grew double until now were I have to cap a workshop off at 35 students in 1 class! I teach weekly class with a max of 12 though, LOL
The MOST valuable lesson to this day from that was to Remain Stoic, Don’t let it pierce you, It doesn’t have to be accepted as the truth, Keep Moving Forward and Grow regardless. No one said it would be easy, but it was Doable and I got it done!
Not only am I one of the Top Acting Coaches in Atlanta, I have Celebrity Coaches and phenomenal Team of Industry Leaders who support and help me educate my students, but MOST of ALL, No one forgot about me, my students followed me from that school to still being taught by me! It was not the building they were coming to each week, It was me, Coach they loved and I loved them back. They knew that and was the strength in that that fuels me to this day! I’m still growing and building, that will never stop.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m an Accredited Acting Coach who specializes in The Chubbuck Technique and a Certified Brain Health Professional affiliated with Amen Clinic and Dr. Daniel Amen. Additionally, I’m a Certified Life Coach through the International Coaching Federation and Certified Coaching Alliance! I train Actors to be Top Performers in the field, from Celebrity to Beginning Actors. By working closely with Agents, Managers, Casting and other Industry Professionals in the USA, I also provide my students with placement of work and referrals that come as priority to these professionals. As a BHP and CCP I work with Clients to help them achieve high levels of mental and physical health through my Life Coaching and High Performance Coach ing programs. I have clients in major professional fields to everyday folks trying to find their regime and purpose. I got into both industries because I’m a philanthropist and helping others in turn helps fulfill my desire to see people win. I was blessed to have 1 person in my life who sparked that fire in me and that was my Gigi (grandmother) who is now passed in physical but continues to guide me spiritually. With that knowing of how powerful 1 person can be to another and that person empower others, the fuel that leaves me with daily is my “Why”.
Both of my Acting Schools provide training for the business side of Acting, Foundational Acting Classes, Hollywood Certified Technique Training, while my Life and Brain Health Coaching provides custom assessments to test brain functioning, as the organ and rehabilitation physically or mindfully from negative, blocked and toxicticity in a client. From supplement suggestions to brain SPEC scans and actually observing the brain activity to heal from there.
What I’m most proud of is that 90% of my client and student base comes from word of mouth and referrals! Saves alot of money on marketing materials when you have people sharing genuine reviews and tagging me on successful journeys!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I unlearned was that because I wasn’t familiar with, not good at or my family wasn’t taught something, dosent mean I can’t become an expert in it, in some capacity. My biggest trail turned trigger until I leaned this was Financial Literacy. My family wasn’t introduced to the correct way of doing things and they were business owners. They got in trouble alot because of stuff they just didn’t understand. I made it my duty as of last year, 2022, LOL, it took me that long but it truly is never too late to get yourself educated and correct. I’m still currently on that journey of practicing what I have learned with finances and have great upcoming goals being met because of this. I unlearned to just accept what your bad at. Nope, it won’t be easy but it can be accomplished.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped me build my reputation in this industry is by keeping it authentic, Myself. I often have to back up the flat out honest view, no sugar coating guidance and comments I give to my students with “I’m gonna keep it 100 with you” Its the only productive way to set expectations of what working with me as a coach is like. You have to get real and if you want to reach levels in your career, folks need to know the difficult sides of things too, the truth, so they can better prepare themselves and expect to hav a plan to get through the rough circumstances. The industry is one you can not control. No matter how hard you hustle for the next 3 month, 1 yr, shoot 5 yr even in some folks cases, that “Big Break” is going to happen when all aligns and you can take the opportunity. Until then, Train, Have Fun and enjoy that process! Makes things way less discouraging that way. You can have difficulties and build at the same. No one said it had to be easy to get done.
