We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jonn Nicholson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jonn below.
Jonn, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I have lived in grown up in Nashville most of my life. So music has always been kind of a part of my life without me necessarily realizing it. Growing up I was classically trained in theater/music and Performing Arts and went to school for such as well as communications in radio and television.
After spending years in that field I returned to Nashville to kind of start fresh. And that’s when I discovered the music scene in nashville. There was one show particularly that I remember seeing at a restaurant that doesn’t exist anymore, and this small group of people got together to play a night of Tears for Fears covers. And I remember it made an impact on me because the entire band seemed to enjoy what they were doing and had a sense of community about them. Even if it wasn’t the most packed out house everybody was enjoying themselves. I honestly wish I knew if I knew any of them now.
I also began going to these free shows that were hosted at the Mercy Lounge every Monday night and it was packed room and it had a rotation of musicians that came together to do cover music and I always loved that energy and that love of the music and community that was not only among the artists but among the audience that came out to enjoy these shows weekly. When I started making shows I knew that I wanted to emulate the heart and the effort that went into both of those examples.
Everything I do and have done since starting my production company as well as my band, has all been in the vein of recapturing that magic of that first night of being back in nashville.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Everything You Ever (E.Y.E.) Productions started as a community effort. Headed by myself, it was always about community. As I said before, Nashville was always a big part of me and I created this company with the hope that I could bring a sense of community to this music scene that set myself apart from the rest of what everybody else was doing. Clear and straightforward direction, no emotional games and elbow rubbing, and just a sense of family and friendship to perform and to also see things performed for you.
Music is always about feeling and experiencing. And I want all of the Productions that I put on to emulate that and to give people a strong emotional response.
E.Y.E. has mainly focused on doing large-scale Productions with multiple musicians. Anywhere from 70 to 150 musicians will come together to perform a night of music selected and curated around a theme and to raise money for various Charities that I feel strongly about supporting.
We also are offering any kind of booking that someone with out the experience to book a show whether large or small scale can go through us to help them along the way. This production company is not to take money from the artist but to give artists the tools and the know-how to go forth and do themselves.
As someone that got endless amounts of help from friends and peers, I always want to give that back in some form and this company is my response to that kindness and generosity that has been giving to me.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The answer therein lies in the question. By supporting the artists. What is that support mean? Buying music directly from them, buying their merch, buying their product. If it’s not music if it’s any form of art whether that’s digital, physical, or visual give the support and the attention to the artist and the art. The biggest thing that we can do is support independent artists. A lot of people get sucked up in for profit venues and labels and companies that are just out there looking who they can sell off for the highest bidder. So if you want to support somebody do something as simple as shooting them a few dollars if they have a patreon, buy a piece of their art if they paint, go to an installation, whatever you can do to directly support an artist that isn’t going through five different levels of management, do it.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Knowing that sometimes the smallest thing can mean the world to somebody. If one person can be changed for the better because of something that I’ve done or put on, I will have considered it a success.
