Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jonatta Harmon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jonatta, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I have wanted to be an entrepreneur since childhood. In my pre-teens, I started developing a passion for owning a business and being creative. I would try out something new like braiding one of my doll’s hair and perfect it until I was ready to move on to the next project. In fact, doing hair was my first test with an at-home business. In my teens, I would have friends, neighbors, and even adults book my services. It then grew to me using other talents and from there I knew that I wanted to officially go into business one day.
Fast forward to 2019, I started my first freelance business helping christian entrepreneurs brand themselves for increased visibility in their markets. That business grew into a full-service digital branding agency. Although there was great success, it was not where my passion lied, nor was I able to fully operate in my purpose. In Late 2022, I closed that business to focus on my God-ordained assignment and that’s when my current business, The J. Toshira Brand, was formed. The freedom I felt when I closed the door on the old business and went forward into opening my current business was overwhelming to say the least, in a beautiful way. Opening The J Toshira Brand was not a far-fetched idea, nor was it on a whim. After seeking God for clarity in how to move forward in 2022, I began to see how I was always called to use my voice in helping others become the best version of themselves according to God’s original design. This made it so evident that my time spent coaching others on how to build their brands was training for my new business. Now, I serve kingdom coaches by training them how to create profits while remaining pure and whole in all areas of their lives. This is a unique value proposition in that it focuses on the whole person behind the business, not just the aspect of being an entrepreneur/coach. It is a sure way to run on empty when you as an entrepreneur know how to make money, but remain broken or unsettled in your mind, relationships, habits, or any other area. This business is my life’s work and I know that the idea was sent from God.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Sure thing! My name is Jonatta Harmon and I am a daughter of the Most High God. I have the honor of being the mom of a beautiful daughter and she is my little business partner. Seeing the lives of entrepreneurs’ families transformed for the better while their businesses grow into sustainable successes is why I love business! My business story, as it relates to coaching, all began when I started to see how my gifts, talents and abilities were able to solve other people’s frustration and provide financial benefit at the same time. Once I saw that it was possible, I wanted to share that blessing with others and teach them how they could do the same. Now, I provide products for coaches who have the desire to make high-quality impact and income according to God’s original design.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Growing up, I had a tendency to be shy. I didn’t have much to say out loud, but I was always very observant and inwardly I had lots of thoughts. My family was not big on encouraging the expression of thoughts and feelings. Therefore, it made it easy for me to stay quiet and not speak up. However, as you may be able to imagine, all of the things I felt wanted to be expressed. As I reached my teens, I saw my peers express themselves in various ways and this made me want to do the same. My voice still wasn’t heard though. In fact, it got lost even more trying to fill a void. In my adult years, especially in business, I had to find my voice. I had to unlearn and dismantle the lies that suppressed my voice and I had overcome childhood trauma, fear, and insecurities to express my voice. I have learned how to use my voice to redeem my freedom and to lead others to theirs as well.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Being a mom has taken me on a beautiful journey and it has presented its challenges as well. Before giving birth, the thought of raising my daughter was one of those “sitting at the edge of my seat” experiences. I was thinking of all of the what-ifs, like “how will I raise her and support her financially? what will our lives look like once I start a business?”. If I had not taken the opportunity to trust God and allow Him to build my fortitude we wouldn’t be here today discussing this.
I look at my daughter now and I thank God for her life. Birthing her and now raising her has caused me to have a resilience that I never knew was possible. Overcoming challenges, teaching her how to live in a world that doesn’t accurately reflect who we are, giving her the ability to express her God-given gifts and showing her how I run a business is all a chance for me to continue to remain resilient.
