We were lucky to catch up with Jonathon Paul recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jonathon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
The last time I had a job was a couple of years ago, it was as a security guard. Even though it provided an income, I was not motivated to be creative, I often had doubt and moments of depression because it suffocated me as a creative. It was just countless hours of working for another persons company and I came to the conclusion that I need to put this same effort in my own company. At that point I completely engulfed myself in my company, No Lab3l Creatives, it embodies what a creative is, there is no limits of creativity, music, production, photography, art, and since I have bet on myself, financially I have been blessed, I am able to work for myself, make my own schedule, and spend time with my family. Not working a traditional job was one of the best decisions I have ever made and Im lucky to have that opportunity.
Jonathon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jonathon Paul aka Conscious Hippy, I have been writing music since the age of 13, I have always had a love for music and writing. My mother wrote poems when I was younger and was also a believer in Christ, I was raised in a house of love and worship of Christ, so I feel like I was destined to be an artist for the people. When I was younger I made music about my life, women, money cars and all the typical stuff a young man idolizes. At the age of 24, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue music, studied the Bible and grew more in my faith. I needed to be motivated in this new city without my family and friends. Then I dropped a project called Blackkk America, shortly after, Hidden Agenda. I am what is considered a “Conscious Artist”. I met my wife in Los Angeles, we work together on various independent projects, and built the brand of ‘Conscious Hippy”. When I reached 30, I realized my mission in this music industry is to uplift people and bring them closer to the Most High. I created the company No Lab3l Creatives, to help an artist like myself, I am an independent artist that also produces/engineer my own music, direct and edit my own videos and write my own music. I also do it for other artist.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to have a No Lab3l Creatives headquarters where I can teach production, engineering and artist development. I would love a building big enough to have recording studios for artist as well.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
It rewarding to hear the stories of people I interact with, what drove them to do what they do, their journey, the obstacles. Creatives are the most interesting people you will ever meet.
