Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jonathan Weimer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jonathan, thanks for joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
It was the final semester of chiropractic school and my last clinical rotation was at the St. Louis VA Medical Center – Jefferson Barracks, working in the spinal cord injury unit. Our school was part of a pilot program within the VA hospital system that involved treating chronic pain patients using an integrative medicine approach [Mayo Clinic Definition: Integrative medicine combines the most well-researched conventional medicine with the most well-researched, evidence-based complementary therapies to achieve the appropriate care for each person]. Chiropractic care was integrated with traditional medical doctors, pain management specialists, PT, acupuncture, massage, psychiatry and mental health professionals. The results that this team of professionals was able to achieve with patients that had otherwise been on a downward spiral due to chronic pain flipped a switch inside my head; integrative care was the future for treating pain. After I graduated with my Doctorate of Chiropractic I was fortunate enough to then continue my training at two world class facilities here in Colorado, The Steadman Hawkins Clinic for my final internship for my Masters of Sports Science and Rehabilitation and Vail Integrative Medical Group for a postgraduate Sports Medicine Fellowship. The time spent at these amazing facilities further solidified what I learned at the VA Medical Center in 2010, integrative care was the future for treating pain but also a necessity for improving clinical outcomes as a whole. These pivotal experiences helped shape what is now Highlands Sport and Spine, an integrative musculoskeletal healthcare clinic.

Jonathan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
From a young age I had always wanted to be involved in health and wellness in some capacity, sometimes wanting to be a medical doctor, other times a PT or a coach. I lived an extremely active lifestyle, dealing with a myriad of injuries over the years. If I did what my PT and athletic trainers told me to do,, I always bounced back feeling stronger than I was before. Rehabbing my own injuries eventually led me to opening up Highlands Sport and Spine in 2013. Over the past 10 years HSS has grown from a one man show to an integrative healthcare clinic specializing in musculoskeletal and sports injuries. At our Denver Highlands office we offer services like acupuncture, chiropractic, PT, massage therapy, dry needling, cupping and sports performance training. Our mission is to empower movement through integrative healthcare to get you back to doing what you love most!
What differentiates our office from most chiropractic and PT clinics is that we want to get you feeling better and moving better as quickly as possible so that you can get back out there to enjoy everything Colorado has to offer. Utilizing the multidisciplinary approach to care at HSS reduces the total cost of care by 34% and average visits by 47% compared to the Colorado average (data provided by Colorado Integrated Care Network).

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Results always speak for themselves so if you don’t provide excellent results, people are going to find a place that can deliver. In order to achieve those exceptional results our providers at HSS spend time with each patient to go through a thorough consultation and evaluation to diagnose their injury and understand what the patient’s goals are, then develop a clear plan to achieve the results the patient is looking for. Listening to our patients and keeping their goals in mind help us achieve exceptional results on a daily basis.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Hands down our most effective strategy for growing our clientele has been our existing clients telling their friends, families and coworkers about their experiences at Highlands Sport and Spine. The patients at HSS know that we are trying to get them better as quickly as possible, making them stronger and more resilient along the way.
