Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jonathan Tomashefsky. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jonathan, thanks for joining us today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
Held out their hand and offered to change my life.
Also have had my best friends family pay my rent without telling me.
People are really wonderful most of the time. I live by the shared values of people like Mr Rogers and Willie Nelson. Love Dolly and Jane Goodall.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I failed at comedy for more than a decade. My road dog and dear friend was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver. Got my wife surprise preggers and on the advice of my little brother got my real estate license.
Life is weird and wild so I tray to match life’s flow by being weird and wild.
I’m most proud of my kids. They are more wonderful than words. My wife is my best friend and I love her more every day. Only thing I’d change is mortgage rates.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Most effective strategy for growing my clientele is being me. Not trying to be someone I’m not. I have learned this the hard way over and over again and I suppose the lessons will just keep tapping me on the shoulder as they happen to me. Thank the good lord I’ve had people tell me ” If you were like a cliche realtor, we wouldn’t have worked with you” Which makes me feel pretty stoked to just be myself. I hope that anyone readying this realizes that the old Oscar Wilde quote about being yourself is more relevant in 2024 than likely all of history. Probably a few dinosaurs wanted to be T-Rex’s.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I was picking up a couple fish burritos from the Mexican spot and while I was waiting for my order, I started looking at those listing pictures in the real estate office window next door. I guy popped his head out the door and asked if I wanted to buy a house. I told him that I already had one. He gave me his card. I called him and the rest is history. Blessed by the fine realtors of La Verne and Glendora that showed me the way. Changed my life.
