Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jonathan Swindell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jonathan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you have any thoughts about how to create a more inclusive workplace?
Creating an inclusive workplace is a commendable goal that fosters diversity, equality, and a sense of belonging for all employees. Here are 3 tips below:
1. Promote diversity: Actively seek diversity in your hiring practices to ensure a variety of perspectives and experiences. Encourage applications from individuals from different backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, abilities, and age groups.
2. Educate and train employees: Conduct diversity and inclusion training for all employees, including managers and leadership. This training should cover topics such as unconscious bias, cultural competence, and respectful communication.
3. Develop inclusive policies: Review and revise your company policies to ensure they promote inclusivity and equal opportunities for all. This may include policies related to recruitment, promotion, and harassment prevention.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are The HBCU HUB App, the world’s first app that connects students to admissions recruiters at HBCUs nationwide! In 2021 we were ranked the #92 educational app in the world. (#92 out of 75,000)
We earn our revenue by helping companies both, big and small to outsource their DEI efforts. A primary client of ours, is the Los Angeles School Police Department, which is focused on hiring more Black and Brown faces. That being said it can be hard to fight crime and contact various HBCUs at the same time.
That’s where we come in, through our relationships with HBCUs, we set up on-campus events and virtual events. On top of that, we have a database of over 22,000 HBCU students and parents, helping companies post jobs and advertise their services as well.
Our bread and butter is helping companies connect and advertise to communities of color worldwide!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Good old fashion networking has worked best for us. We make it a point to go to conferences nationwide and really “put the boots on the ground”! At the start of our business, we were blessed with the opportunity to travel with the Black College Expo, so each month we were in a different state. This allowed us to meet stakeholders within our industry and it helped us refine our product as it was exposed to more and more people!
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Our business model itself requires us to stay in touch with our clients. As companies lean on us to outsource their DEI efforts, we send them weekly or bi-weekly updates. This in itself helps build brand loyalty as clients come to expect our updates.
In regards to our app users over 85% are referred via Word Of Mouth.
We foster loyalty by always putting our end users first!
