We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jonathan, Segev, And Gilad Zadok. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jonathan, Segev, and Gilad below.
Jonathan, Segev, and Gilad, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love for you to start by sharing your thoughts about the pros and cons of family businesses.
At Zadok Jewelers, family is everything for the success of our business. When our parents, Helene and Dror, immigrated to Houston and decided to open a jewelry store in 1976, all they had was a 1,200-square-foot space and approximately 10 items of inventory. From the beginning, Zadok has always been a family business, relying on the encouragement of Dror’s brother and sister-in-law to come to the United States, as well as Helene’s parents, who assisted in paying rent. In the midst of starting a business and moving to a new country, Helene and Dror also raised us – Jonathan, Segev, and Gilad. Each of us was encouraged to follow our own paths, but ultimately decided to use our individual skills to contribute to the family business. Jonathan was an entrepreneur from his youth, and began at Bvlgari before joining Zadok Jewelers; Segev was a business student who was once shy with customers and is now known for his charm and research-driven sales; and Gilad is a creative who first trained in film and comedy before studying at GIA, now bringing artistry to the business. Even Helene and Dror’s daughters-in-law are now incorporated, contributing to community outreach and marketing efforts. Zadok Jewelers cherishes the authentic relationships that we create with our customers, which is rooted in the connection within our family. Although Zadok Jewelers now employs over 100 people, the importance of the legacy we hope to carry can be felt upon entering our stores, and it embodies our parents’ philosophy, which has been with us since the beginning: at Zadok Jewelers, “you’re only a stranger once.”

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Our family’s history in fine jewelry spans seven generations of stewardship and watch-making in Asia. Our parents, Dror and Helene, met when Helene worked next door to the Zadok family jewelry store in Israel, and they were married just three months later. Dror and Helene opened Zadok Jewelers in Houston in 1976 in a modest space, after arriving in the US with their baby Jonathan, a few suitcases, and a dream. Although expansion took time and determination, Zadok Jewelers now owns its flagship 28,000-square-foot showroom on Post Oak Boulevard in Houston, fulfilling Dror’s dream of owning his own property and serving as the anchor tenant of their own mixed-use development.
Now, nearly 50 years later, Zadok Jewelers has expanded beyond Houston with the opening of its Austin showroom at The Domain, the city’s luxury shopping destination, in May 2025. Both locations offer extensive selections of jewelry, bridal collections, many of the world’s finest timepieces, custom design services, and our own Zadok Collection. We are most proud of the legacy that Zadok Jewelers has cultivated since 1976, with close-knit relationships amongst our staff and clientele. Philanthropy has always been at our core, and we strongly believe in supporting the local communities in both Houston and Austin that support us. We are dedicated to exceptional customer service, striving to make every client feel valued and appreciated, as it is our honor to work with them.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When our parents first started Zadok Jewelers, they always reminded us that to open the business, they had to have “more guts than brains.” Many people doubted that their business would ever succeed when they first immigrated from Israel, and cautioned them against opening the Post Oak store. However, despite the odds being stacked against them, they both knew that they had what it took and believed in their potential to grow a meaningful business and legacy. Their resilience and determination in the face of adversity have shaped the Zadok Jewelers that customers know today, and motivate us as their sons to carry that on.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
From the beginning, we have been committed to delivering the very best: high-quality pieces, competitive prices, and exceptional service. Our community has lifted us up in unimaginable ways, and the relationships that we have formed remain the driving force of our business. We pride ourselves on being both employee- and customer-focused; we’ve had staff become like family, and clients who trust us for our honesty and expertise.
The foundational relationships our parents nurtured established Zadok Jewelers as a reliable brand, enabling us to secure pieces that are internationally sought after. As we have grown, we’ve never faltered from our deep involvement in our Houston community and look forward to doing the same in Austin. We don’t take the support we have received for granted, and in turn, aim to make every customer’s visit valuable, personalized, and memorable.
