We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jonathan Scott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jonathan below.
Jonathan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is to ensure that filmmakers’ ideas and creative visions can continue to shape the entertainment industry through creative and entertaining media or films. This world has ideas of filmmakers for years or newcomers who wish to have a film made of their mind creation of entertainment. Many people have reached out to me that their project would not exists unless I was there to record the audio which is 50 percent of the film to help reflect their story and have the audience understand and pay attention to the film.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
The way I entered the industry was starting in high school learning through the ROP programs that taught me the way to become a sound technician and learning how to record bands and musicians, editing and mixing their music so fans and audience enjoy their creative ability and their music that entertains on how it sounds and how the lyrics have been written. This art was a great way to open the minds of musicians and poets to reveal their creative ideas and entertain fans who love and share this music. It would also be built upon the performance of musicians and vocalists and how they perform, and finally with the art of producers and audio engineers to guide the music to be enhanced. But besides that part of my life, later I would deliver the ability of audio engineers to move different routes which happened to me and led me to learn about the art of filmmaking and the role of sound mixers and audio engineers in this industry. At first, I learned through audio engineering school, that my professors taught us don’t stop at music recording but venture into live performance or the film industry. Which was my choice later to be a sound designer for films. I practiced this art in sound designing films and re-recording mixing for films so that they see their premier day and entertain the audience and the filmmakers to have a complete story. Later in my life, I noticed the production sound from on-set filming that the audio was bad and had to be redone in the studio after the shoot. Even one of my professors who also told me that looking into on-set sound, seems like there is demand and constant looking for help. That was when I jumped on the wagon and started doing on-set sound and that’s when directors and filmmakers noticed their sound came out great and didn’t have to fix it in post-production as much and that’s when my phone number started ringing off the hook and constantly passed around to other filmmakers who need my help.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The one way to be desirable and constantly work on film sets and projects is to be the lovable person who is easy to work with, but also someone who takes pride in their work and constantly learning your art to perfection. This can be achieved by asking around people in your industry and being an apprentice from other peers or mentors who work in the industry. Don’t be afraid to read a book about your job and its tips and tricks on how to perfect it, also get on YouTube and venture down the tube of education you can learn off YouTube and watch other sound mixers, boom operators, and sound utilities who can give you insight on what they do and how they got in the industry. Once you become a jack of trades in the department, try to focus on a specific job in the department and become a master of one job so you can stand out and above for filmmakers to notice. Once you have become a master of your job, guarantee word will go out in the industry about you and customers will request or look for your phone number for an upcoming project.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
The best way of maintaining relationships and business practice is to feel free to text or email your clients and just keep in touch with them. Also best way is to check out their Instagram, Facebook, or IMDB page and just see what have they worked on currently. Especially what is best is showing up to premiers of the movies you worked on, or a director or writer movie and just coming down to the theaters or festivals and starting networking with the people you run across. You might never know what it can lead to and maybe a new client might hit you up to work on their upcoming film. Another way to also keep you busy and possibly find future work is to network with the crew and actors you work with on movie shoots, they might run across a project that they needed a crew member that you have that skill to offer.
