We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jonathan Marin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jonathan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
At Wanderlust Candle, our mission is to redefine the concept of luxury candles by prioritizing both well-being and environmental responsibility. We take a unique approach, crafting non-toxic, clean-burning, and natural candles using coconut-apricot wax and clean scent. ingredients, which provides a healthier and more sustainable alternative to traditional options.
Our fragrance collection is inspired by destinations from around the world. We ensure that every candle is cruelty-free, vegan, paraben-free, phthalate-free, and entirely free of harmful chemicals.”

Jonathan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a candle enthusiast, I often found myself suffering from migraines due to the artificial and synthetic scents commonly used in candles. The more I educated myself about the candle-making process, the more I discovered that many big-box candle brands contain toxic chemicals, phthalates, and parabens, often used to reduce costs.
Determined to eliminate these harmful elements from my home, I decided to create my own line of candles.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
We love the opportunity to be part of local markets and pop-up events. These gatherings allow us to connect directly with our wonderful clients, welcome back familiar faces, and meet new candle lovers. It’s a chance for us to share our story, showcase our unique scents inspired by destinations around the world, and let people experience the quality of our clean-burning, non-toxic candles firsthand. Being in these settings gives us the joy of seeing our customers’ reactions as they explore our candle collection in person, creating a more personal and meaningful experience for everyone involved.

Building our audience on social media for Wanderlust Candle has been all about authenticity, consistency, and connection. We share our story, behind-the-scenes moments, and our passion for the candles.
What truly sets us apart is our commitment to engaging with every direct message and comment—we genuinely love staying connected with our community. For anyone just starting out, my advice is to be yourself, and interact consistently with your audience. Focus on building real relationships, it’s all about community, not just numbers.
