We were lucky to catch up with Jonathan Garcia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jonathan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
With bills piling up and no money in my pocket, I stood at the edge of a choice. The weight of responsibility pressed hard, but my heart ached for something more. The stage, a place I once feared , called to me like a lifeline. I could almost hear the rhythm in my chest, the melodies that could drown out the noise of life’s struggles. So, I took the risk. I walked out on stage, nothing to my name but the music I carried inside. Each and every rhyme I spoke felt like freedom, way to escape the weight of everything I couldn’t control. Ironically , it was poetic freedom. For those few minutes the world didn’t matter – only the music and the chance to lose myself in it.
It was a gamble, but I knew it was the only way I could truly be free. As the ones I loved and complete strangers threw their hands up , we were all one .I thought to myself if I ever decide to leave it all behind , I did it. And I went against the odds.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Music has always been my anchor, my refuge. From the moment I picked up my first pair of headphones, it was like something inside me clicked into place. No matter how hard life got, the music was always there. Steady and true. I grew up knowing what it was like to struggle – whether it was the weight of unpaid bills or the feeling of being misunderstood by the world around me. The fight to make ends meet, the loneliness of thinking no one could truly relate – it’s all apart of the journey.
But throughout it all, Ive held onto one thing: The music. The songs I’ve poured my heart into aren’t just tracks; they’re pieces of me, raw and unfiltered. I don’t hide behind any facade or pretend to be something I’m not.Im just like you. Ive been through the ups and downs, the highs and lows, and that’s what makes the music real. I know universally we’ve connected through rhyme & rhythm and I’m just doing my own grid work trying to connect.
What I’m most proud of isn’t the success or recognition, but the fact that I’ve shared something so personal with the world. My music is my truth, and I hope it resonates with anyone who’s ever felt the weight of life or the need to find something that speaks to their soul.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission, the heartbeat driving everything I do, is simple: to be there for you when no one else is. I know what it feels like to be in a dark place, to struggle in silence, or to feel like the world just doesn’t understand. But I also know know the power of connection , of knowing your not alone- even when it feels like you are.Thats what I want my music to be for you.Its not just art or entertainment; its a lifeline, a reminder that I’m right here, with you, in the thick of it all.
IM not some distant figure or someone pretending to have it all together. Im just like you- fighting the same battles, face the same fears, and chasing the same dreams. And when you press play , I hope you hear that. through music we can truly find each other.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Give us a chance. Too often, the doors are closed before we even get the opportunity to step though.
Everyone has a story to tell, a voice to be heard, and something unique to contribute. But that requires space , opportunity, and the belief that creativity isn’t just a luxury- it’s a necessity.
If we’re truly going to foster a thriving artistic community, we need to invest in people, not just polished products. We need to give artists the freedom to express themselves without the constant fear or rejection or failure. When society opens its arms to all voices-whether it’s a song, a painting , a poem, or a film, something powerful happens.New ideas emerge, conversations begin, and the world becomes richer for it. artists aren’t just creators; were the mirrors, the disruptors, and the dreamers who help reflect and shape the world around us. So all we need is a chance. A Chance to speak, to share, to create. And that, in turn gives society something beautiful in return.
