Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jonathan Davis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jonathan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Learning the craft can be overwhelming at first with trying to learn completely new software, understanding settings, and buying gear all being hurdles I faced myself. With pictures and video I believe the best way to learn is to do. The more you put yourself in unfamiliar territory the more you will be forced to learn. Something I wish I did more of at the start was understanding my settings completely. Your settings play a big part in what your photos will look like so copy and pasting settings from others will NOT help you instead. Understand WHY their settings were what they were. Take your time, your goal every shoot should not be to be better then someone else. It should be to be better then you were in your last shoot.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name’s Jonathan Gregory Davis or otherwise know as JD. I’m a 17 year old photographer and cinematographer based in Lakeland, Florida. My work since my start back in September of 2020 has taken me to Nebraska, Nevada, Iowa, Minnesota, Alabama, and of course Florida. My specialty is sports photography in which I’ve been blessed to take pictures of the future of professionals sports. I am currently studying Motion Picture Arts at Harrison School For the Arts and will be continuing my career into college. I am most proud of the brand I’ve built from countless hours working on projects, reinvesting every penny back into the brand. and making my own merch all at 17. I am truly blessed to do what I do and I cant wait to see what god has in store for me in the future.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist for me is the final product. When I scroll on Instagram and see myself getting tagged by people posting my photos and seeing my work as profile pictures that’s what makes me ecstatic. People liking, commenting, sharing my work keeps my going and reminds me that even when I doubt my work there are people who think highly of it.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
People recommending me has by far and away been the best source for new clients. Back in 2021 during the football season I had took a gig for a football game, I did my normal steps meeting before and after the game and insuring the photos were delivered in a timely manner. That client went on to refer me to their friends which generated a little over $2,000 to the brand when it was all said and done. Make every single moment with your clients amazing every client is just as important as the last.
