We were lucky to catch up with Jonathan Byrd recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jonathan , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
The key to success is to first clearly identify what your definition of success is. If the answer to that question is something that can be achieved by your self, do it and do it quickly …and then set new goals.
If the answer to that question is something that will require others, develop a process that is scalable. Understand that you cannot do it all. You keep the vision and let others do the work.
With every realization of success, there is a new realization of more.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always wanted a Lamborghini. While it’s far from the most important thing in the world, it has always been a personal goal. . After some great years working in the corporate world, I realized I that the corporate path, did would not lead me to the life I actually wanted. I’ve always been a risk taker. I moved to MIami 11 years ago from Georgia. I had $100 in my checking account and $0 saved. I remember telling my friends, “It’s fine, I’ll just sleep in my car until I find a job.” So, like moving to Florida, leaving the corporate world, was a new adventure for me. While I was in my corporate job, I started renting my bedroom on Airbnb. When my guest arrived, I just slept on my couch. I made great money so after my time in the corporate world, I decided to expand my short term rental business. I was introduced to real estate from a friend who is a successful agent herself. I believe my success in real estate is that I approach it from an entrepreneur or business owner perspective and not as a job – like many agents mistakenly do. I have always believed that if you can facilitate a way for people to achieve what they want – whether it’s goods or services, with minimal effort, you’ll be successful. This is why I will do what most real estate agents will not. Yes, it’s more responsibility and I’ll often need to do others work, but in the end, the client wins. That’s all that matters to me.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media is the new primary source of news. Media is shared, posted and commented on millions of times per day. Each view of a media, represents an impression and that impression influences decisions and points of view. This is the power of social media and why it is so important in your company. A friend of mine started a company and had no idea how to market it. I created a marketing strategy that was 100% based on social media influencers. The first year, my friends company made over $100k in sales.
My advice on being successful in social media: (1) Create a brand – it be a catch phrase, a logo or just a color. (2). Don’t be afraid to pay influencers to market your product or service. (3) Stay consistent.
In January 2023, I will be launching my YouTube channel with the objective to be able to educate and preview potential homes to buy and rent, all form the comfort of your home.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
When it comes to real estate, there are so many methods to obtaining new clients. But, perhaps the simplest methods are the ones that are overlooked. One of which, is simply talking to people. Many people would rather pay Zillow or another leads agency instead of picking up the phone and calling people. The next important thing is – As my broker always says, “Ask for the business!” We get caught up telling people what we do for a living and never ask them to send us business. Always be marketing.
