We recently connected with Jonathan Brown and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan , thanks for joining us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
Some of the biggest trends I see from a consumer standpoint is that many people today are focused on the present & how material things in the present will serve/benefit them now. Whether that be the money they receive, the connections they create, or relationships they’re able to foster for short term or present gratification. Don’t get me wrong I do understand that not everyone is able to live a long lasting life and that you could be gone at any given point in time, but I truly believe any success any gain that you are able to receive in today’s world can be & should be applied to our overall purpose on this earth. I think there are tons of distractions in today’s society that it is tough for the average human being to keep the main thing the main thing. Always remember and tap back into your purpose and allow that to be your guiding light as you walk through the world.

Jonathan , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always been a huge sports guy. Since I could remember I was either playing football or basketball or engaging in some type of competition with the people around me. In high school I was good enough to play on some pretty good travel teams in the state of North and South Carolina. I was an all state basketball player in the state of South Carolina and I had a short stint at The College of Charleston as an attempt to be a walk on player but I never was able to continue my career in basketball after I transferred colleges. I always wanted to stay close to sports & things financially related. By the time I was a junior in college a lot of the players I knew and some of my favorite former teammates were gearing up to go into the NFL and NBA draft. Some of these guys were coming to me and people in my circle for advice and more specifically financial advice that I was not accredited to give them. With the push of my mentor and one of my closest friends they helped me take a leap of faith and create my own accounting and business management firm.I had already had an entrepreneurial background, I was always with numbers, and when I transferred to Arizona State I decided to major in economics which changed my mind forever. I then went to get my masters in accounting from Grand Canyon University and worked with an elite wealth management firm based out of Beverly Hills as well as a well-known generational family wealth management firm in Phoenix Arizona. After about six years of working with various firms, I decided to break away and pursue my dream and my firm and its entirety. My firm offers general accounting and business management services but we specialize in his financial therapy. Financial therapy is something I believe everyone needs at some point in time. What most people don’t realize is that your finances tell the story and your finances will tell me who you are. If you’re not able to identify who you are within your spending or your finances how will you be able to reach the person you want to ultimately be in this life and in this world? Financial therapy allows my clients to identify potential strengths and weaknesses that will either help them accomplish goals they have set, or it will allow them to see hindering factors that are preventing them from obtaining the life and level of freedom they want.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the main lessons I’ve learned over the past 10 years is that success is on the other side of failure. Failure is needed in order for you to accomplish your dreams and your goals, failure is needed in order to build resiliency & persistence, failure is needed not only for your own gain but to be a testimony and a story of triumph for others who may be in a current season that you’ve made it out of.
Don’t welcome failure with fear, doubt, or regret. Welcome failure as an opportunity for a new start, as every failure of any successful person becomes a part of their story.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I’m far from where I want to be, but I think the best thing I have going for me is at the end of the day is I know I have been placed in my clients lives for a reason. I am genuinely here to help. I’ll take great honor in playing my part to help my clients achieve life they want to live on a day-to-day basis.
