We recently connected with Jonathan B Williams and have shared our conversation below.
Jonathan B , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you recount a time when the advice you provided to a client was really spot on? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
With over a decade of experience in corporate wellness, various performance disciplines (alongside my student-athlete collegiate career); most of my professional advice to my clients has resided in the mindset pillar.
What athletics taught me was to have a higher level of discernment and understanding of each individual position and assignment.
Within my coaching career, I’ve had many clients that struggle with obtaining performance goals and my best advice to them is self-awareness and exploration.
One story in particular, originated from my pursuit to help an uninspired client gain weight who had become overly frustrated with their lack of progress.
My client was convinced that they shouldn’t pursue a program at all, throw in the towel and be underweight forever.
Having a similar weight gain experience myself and through my expertise/research in body types (somatotypes) I successfully enabled a positive approach to properly tailor their program and helped them gain 15 lbs of lean muscle mass in 180 Days.
The best advice I was able to give this individual was to focus on the micro goals and see everyday as progress towards the line. The race is won one stride at a time.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the wellness and performance to help bridge the education for performance minded men.
Throughout my years of achievement I’ve been able to help men and women alike achieve their performance goals, but my performance and fitness services have resonated primarily for men between the ages of 40 – 55 years of age who are struggling with lack of wellness consistency, poor self-awareness and work-life balance.
Proper education and connection to my clients “why” and “how” are my biggest drivers to ensure sustainable results mentally, physically and nutritionally.
I am most proud of my ability to meet each individual where they are in their journey and help implement progressive and comprehensive wellness techniques to ensure long-term growth & success.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The biggest lesson I had to unlearn was desire and readiness are not the same.
Throughout my career, I’ve spoken with many who’ve had goals and desire that they wanted, but struggled with cultivating the proper mentality and follow through to achieve their dreams.
Once I was able to tap into a better space of empathy, I began to relate to my client reservations and lack of motivation better to help them become the best version of themselves.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Outside of professional knowledge and expertise, my lessons from early childhood help me succeed in life at a high level.
As an only child, spending a lot of time with older adults and elders, I was conditioned early to experience timeless teachings of integrity, grace and follow-through.
I believe it’s helped me see things more objectively, remain calm in hard times and deliver better results for my clients.
