We were lucky to catch up with Jonathan Aguirre recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jonathan , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission with each wedding film I create is to break the norm. I help my couples understand that their wedding film is a representation of their love, their family, and their journey. I try to shine light on the idea that your wedding film should be something your proud to share with everyone, it should help you relive your wedding day and all the emotions that happen, and it’s also a memory capsule to see all your loved ones under one roof because… who knows when they will ALL be together like that again. I create timeless films and I try to inspire people/couples through each film.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My story started as a person who knew NOTHING about how cameras worked but I had a strong want to document and capture all the cool areas I had the chance to backpack and travel to. Fast forward almost 4 years later to 2021 I decided to transition to videographer because I wanted to tell the entire story instead of 1 frame at a time.
In 2021 I decided to focus sole on Wedding filmmaking and I haven’t looked back. I’m a huge sucker for love and Rom-Com movies so it felt naturally documenting weddings through video. I’m given the honor of being apart of peoples’ special day while capturing it in a way that evokes the same emotions they felt on their wedding day.
I was given the gift of storytelling and it allows me to serve my couples and clients.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I am in year 7 of being a creative and year 2 of being a business owner. My resilience shows in my ability to keep going. You’re only a failure when you quit and even then it’s only a lesson to learn from.. not a failure.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Networking, investing in education, and practicing your craft are things I wish I knew to do earlier. As you all know networking is important because new opportunities and new wisdom is brought through your network. Surround yourself with individuals who are better than you at your craft and learn from all of them.
Investing in education allows you to learn thing quickly and allows you to practice the things you learn sooner. This a cheat sheet to developing business skills quickly. Learn from individuals who are where you want to be even if that means making a financial investment. The best investment you can make is in yourself.
Practicing your craft EVERYDAY allows you to gain the experience needed for those big opportunities that come at random times in your career. You have to be ready to take on these opportunities because that is where you grow. Do not wait for projects to come to you, create projects you wish you were hired to do.
