We recently connected with Jon Simon and have shared our conversation below.
Jon, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Is a new TV series on Amazon Prime called “Front Men.” It’s meaningful to me because it shines a light on very serious issues that affect all of us. Issues like community, displacement, and elder abuse. Taking these issues and making it into a comedy, makes it accessible to the viewer and it gives it a drive and purpose.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I respond to anything creatively that moves me. Whether it’s a certain Van Gogh at the Norton Simon, a novel that makes us see life in a different way, or the kindness of others. What’s been most meaningful of late is being a catechist at my church, praying with a group of brothers, and spending quality time with my parents. I have recently finished my debut novel and look forward to the next steps in its’ evolution.
My creative touch points are 80’s and 90’s music, movies, and television. There is a heart to them that seems to be missing now.
What people can expect from me is challenging and irreverent comedy that has heart and soul to it.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
There is a book i have been reading for many years called He and I by Gabrielle Bossis. There is a quote, “What you do for yourself will perish miserably. What you do for others, for the love of me, will echo throughout Heaven.” I am not in writing and producing for awards or wealth, but for the love of neighbor. Although writing is a solitary endeavor, producing it with others and the memories we make together is priceless.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
There are many books and videos with various opinions. You can take nuggets from each, but eventually you have to find your own voice. What speaks to you…what sings to your heart. Your experiences, good and bad, tell your story. Embrace where you have been and where you are going. I would just say, find a way to love yourself so you can love others. And then this love can travel from soul to soul.
I have friends from other religions and beliefs and we have a love and mutual respect for each other. But the books that have the most impact for me are the Gospels. They impact my management and philosophy.
