We recently connected with Jon Sayles and have shared our conversation below.

Jon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?

Well I came up with Edwin Entertainment in 2009. In honor of my late Uncle Edwin Lee Wideman who was a hair dresser. Who died on February 6th 1991. That was when I was 8 years old. So I was affiliated with a company called Shadow Theater and it went through its challenging. So that how I started my company Edwin Entertainment.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Well with my background was Theater from my parents acting and directing in the company called “Eulipions” culture center. I’ve acted in plays did a few shorts films and started by writing a play Called “The Life and Times of Ol Alfred” which was rewarding the Henry Award Nomination. So my company services that Biopic and people with disabilities to make their dreams come true. I’m a problem solver so I see there is a problem in the production I would fix it. I’ve done movies like Follow Your Heart and The Great Detective. Host the event Called The Gary Wideman Reading Fest since 2018 to show case the playwrights, singing and screenwriter and poetry.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

Well it was in 2009 when I had to take a few weeks off because I was hospitalized and I just needed a few weeks off. So I saw that shadow was going through its challenging and then I was living with my aunt and uncle so I started in the basement of their house. So I knew what I needed it was a laptop, camera boom pole lavaliere mic. At Mic Cameras.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

So I met my partner Perry B Anthony about 2022 at the Gary Wideman Reading Fest. When Perry read for a piece that DJ Jones had called “Emery Of Life of fire” that year we put our first event together the filmmakers event. And we made movies and he co hosted the Gary Wideman Reading Fest.
