We were lucky to catch up with Jon O’Neal recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
In the start of my music career, my path was very much at a stalemate. The current project I’m involved in started as a band and after a while, things fell apart. I decided upon myself to continue to pursue this endeavor on my own terms and wasn’t sure of the outcome from this decision. Almost three years since that decision, my musical journey landed me many opportunities including working with people I looked up to in my genre of music. I never knew that taking that risk would lead to where I am now.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Jon O’Neal. I’m an independent songwriter, musician, producer and arranger. I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2018 and currently have a project called “The Arkadian” where I write original songs about video games.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The biggest thing that helped me build my reputation came from two things. The first would be networking, Obviously, as a rookie in your field, it’s always smart to interact with colleagues who can assist your growth and encourage you to strengthen your craft. The second, and most important to me, is being your best self. The heaviest burden anyone could ever carry is their ego. There’s a time and a place for that stuff, but I guarantee you will have significantly better results if you present yourself with your true colors.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I found this question very interesting, as I too struggle with social media from time to time. The best advice I could give is to find your own voice. I notice a lot of patterns in social media where several people share the same “voice”. If you truly want to stand out in social media, find certain aspects of your business and add your personality to it, That to me is a beneficial tool for originality.
