Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jon Fiore. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
So way way back when I was in my first year of college I went on a date and we went to the Playboy club in New York City. We went to see a performer, her name was Vivian Reid.. She was a Tony award winner on Broadway In the show Don’t Bother Me I Can’t Cope. It was during the show which was a cabaret act. She proceeded to go out into the audience when she happened to pick me to sing with her. I guess it was the audience, their reaction that did something to me inspirationally. Maybe it was the applause, I don’t know, but right then and there something was spinning inside me that I wanted to pursue. I had no idea how, but I knew I had to explore this further. So a day or two later, I was having a conversation with two of my siblings who happen to be older than me. I asked them if they had any idea how one would go about getting into show business of which they had no idea. My brother-in-law at the time knew about some newspapers called Backstage & Show Business. So the next day I went out and purchased these newspapers, and in them, they had all these different articles, auditions, and just opportunities that one would have to go and audition for. So my first opportunities lead to talent contests throughout the five boroughs. Eventually, I started winning some contests and the journey started which led to various bookings throughout the five boroughs and eventually the Catskill mountains, and so many other opportunities. That’s basically how it all started.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As my journey continued, I ended up getting a record deal with the rock group PREVIEW As the lead singer front man. We were signed to the David Geffen record company in Los Angeles and we were all shipped out there to record this album in the late 70s. Eventually my journey continued. To where one of my biggest accomplishments was in the advertisement business, where I was singing, all the jingles on radio and television. This continued for about 20 years based in New York City. Silver may jangles which could be close to 1000 of them over the years contained such hits as Folgers, coffee, Gatorade, Army, Snickers, Coca-Cola Company, Slice, Miller beer, etc. just to name a few. I also sang movie, soundtracks, the heavenly kid, sing, and sang on many other albums of other artists. I also wrote a bunch of songs for various artists including George Benson. I also sang on aMichael Bolton album, CHER and many others.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I think sometimes things just happen as long as you’re true to your craft as you keep learning, keep exploring as you’re just getting better at whatever it is you do and eventually opportunities will come your way. You just have to be ready for it. I know some people call that luck. I’d like to think of it as we make our own luck as in preparation meets opportunity. Hard work eventually pays off. Life is what you make of it. It’s not just all creative. I think there has to be a fine balance between work, personal I’m just all-around good health. I remember when I met the woman of my dreams some 21 years ago. I was never married before, and soon after I met her some three months later we got married. She is the love of my life, and she gave me three beautiful children and many grandchildren.. I also decided to pivot about five years ago and venture into the acting business. It’s a totally different creative process than singing. I fell in love with it, and proceeded to take many classes, improv, and sort out many different acting coaches, and teachers. And I am happy to say that at this moment I’ve done several films, The Shipment, it’s streaming on Amazon. I’m also part of a episodic adventure. that is distributed through the AMC, Nettwerk and 1265 Films. I have a recurring role in the series. I play Tommasco Belllucii, a consultant from Sicily to the Mexican Cartel. We just signed a five year deal. We just filmed season 2 and it comes out in July 25.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Well, when I started out what motivated me was to move people. To make them feel something in a good way, whether it was about themselves, someone else, was just to make people feel good. I’m ian entertainer and my job is to make people feel good. In return I feel what they feel. It’s an amazing feeling. When you were on stage, you feel it instantly. When you’re doing a film It’s a different experience because you’ll experience it in the moment as you were filming it and if you’re having fun something good happens.
And when the audience gets to see it, hopefully they feel what you were feeling. I know that’s how I get moved when I watch a show, an actor, you feel what they feel. like if they’re hurting you feel what they’re feeling or if they’re happy you’re feeling happy. A good actor helps you to feel what emotions you’re feeling.
