We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jon Danforth a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jon , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is my debut full-length album which came out in February of this year. A lot of work went into writing the songs, arranging them, recording them, ordering them, and putting out the record. The songs tie so closely to my life in such a strange variety of ways so it was a fun and special project for me. The album explores things ending and things beginning. Whether it be the ending of a relationship, the shedding of a way that you used to view the world, or the passing on of a loved one; each of these types of events trigger whole new chapters in life. The album seeks to remind the listener that every beginning requires something else to end, and every ending allows for something else to begin
Jon , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a singer-songwriter from Dallas. My music falls under the indie-folk, folk-rock, and Americana labels. I started playing acoustic guitar when I was 13 and started writing songs shortly after that. After playing in bands throughout high school and college, I started playing as a solo artist in 2017. Since then, I have released four EPs and have just released my first full-length album entitled “Beginning and End”. I am thrilled with the album and would say that record is what I am most proud of.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
By the time I am done creating music, aka when I’m dead, I hope that if someone looks back over the scope of what I’ve created, they will see reflected the diversity of the human experience. I want my songs to touch on the main topics and experiences that the majority of humans go through: love, loss, struggle, death, God, sex, faith, doubt, joy, sadness; I want my music to address as much of human life as possible.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Follow your favorite artists on their social media accounts and streaming accounts. If you love someone’s music or art, tell your friends and family about them. Go to their shows and buy their merch.
