Alright, Jolie Kristine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
I believe in treating the client as a whole person, not just facial epidermis. Complimentary consultations lead to time well spent in conversation. Each new client receives a half an hour visitation with me, before I ever touch them. In this industry it is incredibly crucial to do an extensive health history. There is so much insight that comes from our time together. When my consultations come to a close, I feel as though I have every bit of information to achieve greatness for a client.
My adult career began in dentistry at 17 years old, to uphold my state license continuing education credits are mandated yearly. Education is the foremost important thing for a basis of any business. The habit of religiously learning came naturally to me.
Every year I pride myself on my continued studies and practicing on the forefront of cutting edge. In the esthetics field CEU’S are not mandated. I have a vision of standing in front of the board someday pledging for this to change. Not only will it offer better clinicians, it will offer better treatments with unparalleled science.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My Grandfather incorporated 9/26/1967, he started working as young teenager and climbed the ladder to owning an amazing business. Malley Cornell sat on the board of the humane society and was very involved with the local rotary in San Diego. I was blessed with incredible business role models during my childhood years. I pride my self always on the way my grandfather operated as a business person. How I would best describe him is conservative, honest and full of integrity. I developed a business model that I use on a daily basis to treat each client as they are my direct Ohana and with love. I never over diagnose or put anyone in uncomfortable positions.
My facial practice began when I was a small child, people couldn’t sit for more than five minutes without me trying to cure their ails. By nature I am a caretaker of the human population, I love working with every type of skin. I built my practice with nothing but integrity.
After traveling a long journey I was speaking with a colleague about different product lines, she introduced me to the company that I fell in love with Cosmedix. Cosmedix is chirally correct without any harsh down time. The are a conscientious company with great value in terms of their ingredients.
My heart has always resided with nature, my Mother took me in the garden at an early age. She taught me about plants and the value of complete nurturing. The scientist brain inside of me always is intrigued by whole plant medicine and plant healing properties. I work with Oncology patients in survivorship and in treatment, in this it was imperative to me to find non invasive healing ingredients. I was led to a company called Laurel, Laurel began as a sommelier and then became and herbalist. My values highly align with her 100% organic line.
I am trained in 2 types of facelift therapies one modality comes from an Osteopath in Russia whom trained the world Famous author Yakov Gershkovich. Training with Yakov was such an incredible experience, working with the facial muscles to release tension and to lift the facial muscles. A portion of the nearly hour long facial massage is intra-oral buccal massage to work directly with the masseter muscle. Secondarily, I work with Neurotris Microcurrent, this is the face lifting device made famous by Tony Picciano via the Hollywood Starlets. Tony created a medical grade machine that does other worldly anti aging. I also work with Lightstim and soon the newest addition to the Hydrafacial family the Syndeo. Having worked in medicine in the dental field for 20 years, medical grade FDA equipment is mandatory in my practice.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
When you build your community honesty never fails. I am very open with my clients in telling them that my business is built on word of mouth and referrals. I reward my clients with my referral system that I created, each time they send in a new client. The best gift you can give any business owner is the gift of referring people with in your social groups of families.
Social media is how each business owner operates now, its a great avenue to be able to directly educate clients. I use my social media platform to help people understand how the skin works and how to maintain the efficacy of their skin.
Have you ever had to pivot?
When I was raised in the beauty field by my dear friends in the business they instilled strong values in my mind at a young age. The transparency was really crucial to my own development. Someone once told me, “Come on kid, there is room at the top for all of us.” This has become my own personal mantra, I believe in every single owned business. We are the dream makers.
The pandemic hit and I was working for a small coastal spa. Since the beginning of my career I was always a commission employee. The law changed for the beauty industry and it became illegal to have commission employees. Then doors were shutting right left and sideways in business.
The 2nd take over happened most businesses began to shift out of the “Spa” model and then many sole proprietorships were born. I decided to take the leap and spread my wings! It was the most frightening thing I have ever done. I had an entire team of people behind me believing in me and helping to make it happen! Here I sit a couple of years later as the most grateful person in the world.
