Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jolie . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jolie , thanks for joining us today. Innovation comes in all shapes, sizes and across all industries, so we’d love to hear about something you’ve done that you feel was particularly innovative.
The most innovating thing I have done in my career is New York Fashion Week. I was invited by a agency name, Introspective Innovation. I was able to show 6 piece for the Spring Summer 2023 collection. It was so inspiring to be around other creatives. That moment was so exhilarating that I finally felt seen in the industry.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Angelique, but people know me by Jolie. I am a fashion designer who creates custom and quality denim pieces. I take your regular denim and turn them into runway, red carpet masterpieces.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
The most and I say iconic story in my journey was in April 2020. I was creating a very famous and notorious designer jeans by painting LV logos all over the jeans. The jeans went viral and caught the attention of all celebrities, bloggers, stylist, and everyday people. My team up created these jeans due to Covid and trying to stay busy.
We took pictures in the jeans, overall having fun with just creating. Little did I know that I would receive a Cease and Desist by the fashion house to stop all production.
Yes that’s right a 92 page Cease and Desist from LV. It indeed was a crazy time, they stated that I was confusing their buyers. We never meant any harm we were just having fun during a time when the world was still.
That moment made me get more creative in my own designs and since then I have stayed focused on being original, and authentic.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
It was a time in business that I just could not keep up. I couldn’t keep in orders. I was just unorganized. I did not have good business practice. I just knew how to create. Not to mention I was 9 months pregnant, with a 2 year old already. No excuses but I was a mess. Whispers got around and that’s when people started to speak badly about my business. Honestly I had to look in the mirror in do some self reflecting. Those hard 3 months and I was able to bring on a team and get my business to where it is now. In business we have Wins and Losses. Sometimes those Losses are needed to improve your development.
