We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jojo White a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jojo, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
The legacy that I’m going to build is one that serves others, brings joy, a sense of family, and the biggest is an understanding of how good God is.
Thing things I’m building on now from standup, short films, podcast, sketches and other things I’m pouring into are the foundation to providing for others. I’ve never been about I wanna be rich so I can wipe my butt with $100 bills. My heart has always been, I can’t wait to make it so I can provide jobs to my friends/family and ultimately buy land to start a community close people can buy into (not a cult haha).
I don’t really care what people say when I’m taking a dirt nap, but it should be that I was a man strong in his faith, funny, loving, caring, and helped so many people.
Maybe people will remember me for my funny stories or crazy adventures or outrageous things I’ve said or idk…I hope to be remembered for how my faith changed me and allowed me to serve others.

Jojo, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, I’m Jojo and I’m a touring standup comedian.
I get on random stages throughout the United States and to make random people laugh for monies, but really the laughter is healing so maybe I should say I’m Dr Jojo🤔
What makes me different from everyone?
When you’re done watching me, you’ll invite me to your family’s thanksgiving and ask me to deliver your baby. The thing that makes me different is that you’ll feel like you know me, you’ll get a sense of like we’re family after the show, my comedy is clean (not vulgar), and I really care about you after the shows done. Also, I love the sound of trains at night lying in bed.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In standup you never know who will see you and what opportunities will come from that. So you lose a lot of money and you travel far for little time.
One time I drove 2hrs to a club to perform for 5min just to get exposure.
I didn’t get exposure lol Would I do it again?
I recently drove an hour and a half for 10min. But I got paid $50.
I feel like that’s a win haha I’m moving forward

Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
I had a close call and almost missed my spot for a show in Columbus GA.
From Atlanta there’s only a couple main roads to get to Columbus. You can take backroads, but it will take you longer.
On my way to Columbus we hit traffic, which was fine cause I leave hours in advance so I don’t have anxiety about being late.
If I’m two hours away I’ll leave almost four hours in advance.
Well traffic ended up being main road shutdowns and as I sat in traffic time began to dwindle to showtime! I had to call the venue and let them know.
I hopped on the backroads and raced through the towns. Seeing trees on the road from the storm.
They held the show for me and I made it 30min late! As soon as I walked in the building I walked straight on stage! No getting prepped or my mind right.
The thing I learned is I need to leave 8hrs early next time haha
