We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jojo Savea. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jojo below.
Jojo, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I built this platform because I want people, especially Deaf Pacific Islanders, to see what is possible.
Our community is small. A lot of people do not even know we exist. Growing up, I did not see anyone out there doing the things I dreamed about. So I decided. Why not be that person. Why not show that we can take up space, chase big dreams, and create our own paths in our own way.
I am here to inspire people to believe in themselves, to go after what they want, and to know that being Deaf, being Pacific Islander, being yourself is your superpower, not something that holds you back.
This is not just about content. It is about changing how people see us and more importantly, how we see ourselves. You can do anything you set your mind to and I am here to show it every single day.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a Deaf Samoan woman who is all about storytelling, culture, and just showing up exactly as I am. I grew up moving every single year, from state to state, country to country. Always the new kid, always standing out. It taught me how to adapt but also how to stay grounded in who I am no matter where I go.
During college, I landed my first social media gig in Australia. That was when I realized how much I loved building community through content. It started small, but it sparked something bigger. That experience eventually led me to several opportunities where I spent over 10 years working in social media and learning every part of the game.
While working in this industry, I realized there was barely any space for Deaf content creators. No resources. No ecosystem. No real support. So I decided to flip the script and be that person.
Now, I do two things. As a content creator, I work with brands and organizations through social media partnerships, collaborations, and storytelling projects that highlight real life, culture, and community. I also built a team that provides full social media services. We handle strategy, content management, and help people show up online in a way that feels real and powerful.
What we really do is help people connect. Whether it is helping brands find their real voice or helping creators feel seen, we are all about building something that actually means something.
What makes me different is my experience and my lens. Being Deaf, being Samoan, moving around my whole life, it gave me a different way of seeing the world. I do not just post to post. I create with intention and heart behind everything I put out.
I am proud that I built all of this without watering myself down. I am proud that I am creating space for others to feel seen too.
If you are here, whether you are following me, working with me, or just finding out who I am, what I want you to know is this. You can do whatever you set your mind to. You can show up loud and proud. You can create your own lane and bring others with you.
We are just getting started.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my audience on social media didn’t happen overnight. It’s been a journey and honestly, it all started with being real. I grew up moving around a lot, from state to state and country to country, so I learned early on how to connect with people from all different backgrounds. When I started on social media, I wasn’t trying to be anything I wasn’t. I just wanted to share my story and the things that mattered to me.
In the beginning, it was all about being authentic. I wasn’t trying to fit into a mold. I just showed up as myself, shared my journey, my culture, and my perspective as a Deaf Samoan woman. That’s what resonated with people. They saw that I wasn’t pretending to be perfect. I was just being me and that was enough.
What really pushed me though was when a big-time content creator, Curtis Griffin, believed in me. Shout out to Curtis! He challenged me to post for 30 days straight, and that challenge changed everything for me. I went from about 5k followers to 13k in just 30 days. That boost in visibility, combined with consistent content, helped me grow in ways I hadn’t imagined.
I also spent a lot of time interacting with people in my community. I didn’t just post and leave it at that. I engaged, responded, and built relationships. I think that’s the most important part of growing an audience — being present and showing people you care.
Now, over time, I’ve worked with brands and collaborated with others in my space. But it’s never been about chasing numbers. It’s always been about building a community that feels like family. That’s how I’ve kept growing and that’s how I continue to build.
My advice for anyone starting out? Don’t try to be someone you’re not. People want to connect with the real you. Don’t get caught up in comparing yourself to others. Focus on your journey and what you can bring to the table that nobody else can.
Also, be consistent. It doesn’t mean you need to post every single day, but stay consistent with your content and the message you’re sharing. And don’t be afraid to engage with your followers. It’s not just about the content you put out — it’s about the connections you make.
And lastly, have fun with it! Social media is supposed to be a place where you can be creative, share your passions, and connect with like-minded people. Don’t stress over the numbers, just focus on building something that feels real to you.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being an artist or creative for me is seeing the real impact my work has on others, especially when it opens doors or gives a voice to those who haven’t had it before. Like when I made Moana 1 & 2 accessible in American Sign Language for Sign Up Captions, I started getting messages from parents of Deaf children saying how happy they were that their kids could finally enjoy these movies in a way they understood. That really hit me in a way I can’t explain.
Another huge reward is seeing fellow Deaf Pacific Islanders come together, feeling like they finally have a voice and are being seen in a space they never thought they’d be part of. That sense of community, knowing I’m a part of it – it makes everything I do feel so much more meaningful.
And then there are the messages I get from people who tell me that because of my work, they’ve finally been able to do something they’ve always wanted to do. That’s what makes it all worth it – knowing that what I create is not just for me, but it’s helping others feel empowered and seen. It’s moments like those that make me love what I do even more.
