We recently connected with JoJo Bros and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, JoJo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Well from a young adolescence, my brother and I were introduced to the arts through Michelangelo, Van Gogh, Monet, and others like them. Soon after our parents saw that we had a deep interest by the many sketches and paintings we started making, they put us in a local painter’s Art class that she did out of her home for a limited amount of students. There we learned the basics for several years and pushed our skills to the next level. In our teens we had the pleasure of working with Interior designers and artisans from Florence Italy on the Philharmonic House of Design in Laguna Beach for 2 consecutive years. Then around our late teens early 20’s we got to the point where we felt we could actually make a living and a career being professional fine artists based off the clients we were gaining off the small shows and events we were doing. So our thought was hey, we are brothers who love art, with different styles, let’s team up by blending the two and create an experience that hasn’t been really explored yet. Well just over a decade later, and we have sold art to several Celebrities such as Mel Gibson, Rebel Wilson, and Alice Cooper, work on display at the Laguna Museum of Art and international clients collecting our work . We feel truly blessed.

JoJo, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Two brothers working in harmony with each other would be the first thing that sets us apart from the others. Aside from that, we like our work to speak for itself. Our job is to make it the best it can be in our eyes, your job is to interpret it. We feel that if one has to explain their work too much, then it’s not doing what we intended it to do for the viewer. Make up your own perception, let it move you in unique individual ways. The mystery of art is what we want to keep alive. When working with a collector, confidents in your process is what gains their trust when investing in you and that we feel is a crucial part of building a solid foundation in ones industry.
Our aim is to bring back the iconic celebrity artist, (like Andy Warhol) by creating an intersection that capitalizes on the lucrative nature of pop culture and the essence of the working artist. We conceive, collaborate, and work together on each project that range from Paintings and Sculptures to Surfboards and Fashion. Growing up in and around the legendary art colony of Laguna Beach was a major inspiration for us. Seeing all of the amazing art galleries inspired the possibilities of what we could ultimately do with our own vision for art.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When it comes to your social media presents, we think it’s good to establish that but in our opinion shouldn’t be a deciding factor in your art career. Building unique relationships and an audience outside of social media should be practiced more. I think its dangerous for the authenticity of what it means to be a true artist when people start putting too much value on how much content they put out or how many likes one photo of a piece gets in a single day, rather than the raw story, sacrifice, and years put into developing your career as a whole. Its becoming easier to get lost in the abyss of the ever growing trend of insta-famous artists. Like instead of having to go to a gallery to see new artists, you can at the scroll of a finger see 50 differents artists from the comfort of your couch and may even find yourself comparing your career to theirs based off the IG presents they have which is creative suicide. When all artists can be famous, none of them will be. Maybe the unseen effort should be celebrated as much as the seen effort.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Theres nothing quite like the satisfaction of being able to express yourself through creative mediums such as art and sculpture. In fact we believe it’s the purest form of self expression that exists. Theres no boss, no script, just you and your vision to manifest creative destiny. Art is the trace of our passage here on earth so if we can leave something thats remembered and admired well after we pass on, then maybe our time here was well spent.
