We were lucky to catch up with Jojit Roy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jojit, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I think the most meaningful project we’ve ever worked on is our “Life Of Vibes: A Celebration of Life” charity event. I have been able to partner and work with many individuals and organizations on putting on charity streams and events. The reason why that event hits home is that it was one of the first charity streams we were all able to do in person since covid had taken over. For this event, we invited some local DJs in the area and gave them a platform to play music for almost 12 hours straight, stream it live on Twitch, and have a direct donation link to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
The reason being it so meaningful is that we had so many hands willing to help the cause. Suicide hit home to many of us and we wanted to help bring attention and awareness to a bigger scale. As donations came in, people were sharing their stories on how gaming and music had helped change their lives and create a new chapter in mentality. We have many members of our organization share their stories and share their resources on how they can learn more and feel more confident about bringing up conversations with friends and family. Booking DJ’s, obtaining camera equipment, and venue all came from donations from the community and everything came with the intention to contribute. A true moment for me to see the community come together, understand our mission, and execute to a level none of us had imagined.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I stream myself playing video games, talking, editing, and practically doing anything I think is watchable on a live streaming platform called Twitch. I started streaming back in with only the intention to show my friends good I was at playing video games on my social media platforms. As I gained more attraction and studied the market, I picked up pretty quickly that I needed a niche. The streaming platforms are all so saturated with so many different angles, people can watch you for being good at playing video games, bad at video games, watch you solve puzzles, the realm of what you can do streaming live to an audience is infinite, if you can think of doing it, someone is probably already streaming live as the idea comes to your head.
I stuck to what I did, with no intention of pursuing it as hard as I did back when covid created a huge surge in streamers that started in 2022. I played mainly FPS video games, met some people online, and consistently played online games with them practically on a daily basis. As each of us grew individually as streamers, we all thought it would’ve been a good idea to all come tougher and form collectives where we can all benefit from each other and grow off of each other audiences. I founded “The Ville” a family of creators simply off the idea of building a community that would intertwine with anyone who would come in contact with it. For all my Marvel fans out there, we were trying to build our own multiverse of creators. If you wanted to watch someone build legos, play live music, motivational speeches, or simply play a specific video game, we would have someone who did that or knew someone that could refer to.
What I love about us, is that no matter how hard it is to get traction, the main goal and mission always remain the same. We aren’t here to be the biggest names in the community, we are simply here to build, grow and connect the community. We’re not competing against each other, we’re helping each other build the foundation.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
GIVE US THE LIGHT OF DAY! We are in a time now, where the term “creative” is such a diverse term, and many not accustomed to the realm turn away from it. Collaboration has been the most fun part of my creative journey, and being able to learn from people In the community has always been a plus. Being able to see others grow and succeed always brightens my day and challenges my mind set on how I can grow more and more each day.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Ah, I think the biggest lesson I had to unlearn was the expectation that everyone in my life would support me to the fullest and it would be my main way to break out and reach new heights. I don’t mean this as negative, but definitely, a new lesson learned. I think when you first start on any creative journey you assume that everyone close to you will back and support your work every time you post or share any content. I think I held on to that idea for so long that it almost turned my mentality upside down to where I assumed that they weren’t supporting my “grind and passion” Social Media is such a metric-driven and it really can create a mindset where if you aren’t getting views, likes, comments or shares you aren’t succeeding. Taking on the ownership and realizing where I could grow and approach a demographic differently never came to my mind. My friends weren’t the ones watching my streams and viewing every little clip I posted, it was my community that I built that I wasn’t reaching enough through other platforms.I never realized that I needed to reach the demographic that I was reaching compared to trying to reach my circles around me. My friends support me and support my passion, sometimes they just aren’t my target market. I needed to be reaching and branching out, it was as simple as that.
On a side note: If you do see a friend post something they created, a like, comment, and share never hurts. Think about how much other people might benefit from it if you were to share one post that might not align with you, but could align with millions.
