We were lucky to catch up with Johnny Vagianos recently and have shared our conversation below.
Johnny, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
Denzel Washington once said, “Dreams without goals, are just dreams and they ultimately fuel disappointment.” Having a creative mind was a gift, but it was a relentless drive fueled by ambition which launched my ideas into reality. “The JV Show” began as a small hobby in 2021 to serve as a distraction during the pandemic. Little did I know that my passion for the game of football would take my very own podcast to heights unimaginable. “The JV Show” started solely as an idea, and its success so far can be credited to the goals I continue to set for the podcast. It was a building process from an old gaming headset in 2021, to piecing together a true podcast studio with audio and visual upgrades in 2023. Months of time spent on building a strong reputation and honing my craft took my podcast to the place it is today. “The JV Show” has been a continuous learning curve like no other, forcing me to adapt and learn new skills and techniques. It is nowhere near what it was in 2021, starting from rock bottom with zero followers. Brick by brick I’ve grown my podcast, working on my setup, making connections, recognizing my niche, and grasping my purpose. From day one its been a learning battle but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. After two years of running my podcast. I can confidently say that this is only the beginning of my journey.

Johnny, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
From the age of four, I’ve been fascinated with NFL football. My childhood was built around the game of football and the NFL. Whether it was watching the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium, or running my own Fantasy Football leagues, I’ve lived the game of football for as long as I can remember. In a sense, the NFL has become a piece of my identity and will forever remain close to my heart. With such a strong passion and desire to express my knowledge as I grew up, I began “The JV Show” podcast with minimal expectations. Now after over two years of running the podcast. it has grown into a worldwide community of NFL and Fantasy Football fans. Today, “The JV Show” aims to bring its viewers an unbiased opinion on the matters of the NFL, while also providing a unique perspective through interviews with various athletes and football personnel. I take the most pride in my podcasts’ ability to hear the voices of the fans, but also to allow for a platform for athletes and football personnel to voice their opinions and release their own testimonies. Rarely do we hear about the athletes side of the story in the media, and I work hard to ensure their opinions are heard on the podcast.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media in 2023 provides the absolute best opportunity our society has seen to expand your brand and fulfill your own dreams and aspirations. Fortunately, we’ve been given the opportunity as creators and podcasters to use social media to begin, promote, and grow our own platforms. However, more times than not do we see ideas fall through due to the struggles of social media and the inability to build a social media presence quickly. Although social media gives you the platform to succeed, It takes a determined and selfless personality to reach your goals. In order to grow your audience, you must be willing to learn and evolve in your respective field. A common misconception for those early in the process of growing a social media presence is not truly understanding your own role. In order to attract an audience on social media, it is a necessity that you willingly make an attempt to become a master in your area and cater to your audience. Building an audience on social media has arguably been the biggest struggle for my podcast over its two year existence. It required months of trying new techniques and crafting discussion to get where the podcast is today, and I’m still nowhere near satisfied. More than anything, you must be passionate about what you are working towards, and you must fall in love with the process. As easy as it may sound, growing a social media brand comes with many challenges and difficulties. You must be willing to persevere, whether it is a side hustle or full-time job, to overcome these hardships and stay on the track to success.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Reputation and connection means absolutely everything when trying to build your brand. It’s always about who you know, and the effect you leave on those you come into contact with. Building a strong reputation isn’t difficult, but it does require a conscience effort to help and most importantly respect others. I’ve conducted countless interviews over the podcasts existence, and one lesson I’ve learned about reputation is to show respect and kindness to everyone. For example, I had the privilege to interview CFL Hall of Famer, Milt Stegall. Although Milt was in no position to accept my interview invitation, he did so with generosity and treated me with the utmost respect when he joined the show. The positive attitude he carried left such a phenomenal mark on me as my respect for him not only grew as an athlete, but more so as a human being. Whether you choose to believe it or not, your reputation can often determine your future and the relationships in your life. I take pride in building my reputation both in the NFL community, but also in my private community. It is the art of humbleness we as society often lack in our quest to strengthen our reputation. Humbling yourself down regardless of your social or economic class to respect and assist others in need is truly what building a reputation is about.
