Johnny, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I think the biggest risk is allowing everyone to see you, yeah? Being your biggest self knowing some people will get it and feel it and some people will hate it. It takes a lot of trust and safety to be seen in your realest, most raw form. That’s scary.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My names Johnny King and I’m a rock singer. And I have a damn good time doing it, haha. I talk about mental health, politics, and then all the other cliché things we all write about THAT ARE ALL TOTALLY MEANINGFUL. I share myself as honestly as possible because I want people to see that they’re not alone in their weirdness and there are others just like us.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Hell yes there is. I want to be so painful open that it allows other people to do the same. I spent the majority of my life in fear and had so much terror around visibility and being seen. And I hid it. I felt so much shame for that. But now.. Johnny King was born and the attitude came back and here we goooo
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
BUY THINGS FROM THE DIRECTLY. Whatever they offer, buy it. That’s what keeps the lights on and lets them keep creating for you. Ask them where to listen to their music. Where can you listen that lays the most to them? That kind of stuff. AND HAVING REAL CONVERSATIONS. God that’s so hot. Actually connection, haha. The whole reason we do the damn thing
