Johnny, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The city I live in, San Antonio, Texas didn’t have a local radio station that would play their music. So, I decided to create a streaming radio station and provide an outlet for local musicians to have their music heard. The station only plays local music 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are registered with music registries, so they do get paid when we play their music. It’s not much, but we don’t want them to think they are bing taken advantage of. We also host a few talk shows, and provide adds for upcoming performance events.
Johnny, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So I am a local musician here in my home town. San Antonio is a great town, and is home to some fantastic musicians. The only problem was, the town didn’t support the local scene very well. We actually have the head quarters for iHeart radio stations, but they don’y offer a single local radio station to support our local musicians. I felt there was a need for this service, so I decided to start a streaming station. Iy has been broadcasting for a little over a year now, and it’s been growing really well.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
To help local bands and musicians grow their local following. I want to make local musicians famous locally. I know that sounds strange, but the way most people listen to music is in a bubble, Our station is meant to expand what local people are listening to, and grow their awareness of what is happening in their back yard.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice
I think any way a creative can find to get paid for their work is a good thing. The internet, and the digitization of almost all artistic work is a dangerous thing. People think everything should be free. That is a huge problem, which is another reason we think it all start locally.
